Firefox 1.0 Gripes and Complaints

Hi all!

I recently switched to Firefox 1.0 from an older version (not from IE...what do you take me for, a neanderthal?), and have noticed some changes, most good, some not so good.

As you hopefully can tell, this thread is about the not-so-good. So, without further ado...

1) It takes a REALLY long time (comparatively, at least, with .8) to render pages when switching between tags.

2) Long startup time, in general- Load up IE, and load up Firefox- unfortunately, the former starts up a lot quicker (on my comp) than the latter.

That's about it for now, although I'm sure the more I use it, the more I'll find, but you never know with Mozilla programs :)

@All- Yes, I know this is a PR, not an RC, but that doesn't prohibit me from criticizing it!

P.S: @Mods: Don't know if this goes in Windows Software or Application skins, as well as whether or not it should be tagged with [help]

i`ll trhow in my annoying-as-hell maximizing out of the blue and no being able to add new themes problems.

i`m slowly getting sick of FF cause of the first one.

I definitely agree- it's a big turn off. What do you mean you can't add themes?

I also want to add that the favicon not being displayed in the tab is annoyinig (maybe that's the TBE extension?), as well as (a big one although I'm not sure if it's skin based or not)

THE LACK of distinction between tabs. It seems there's not much dividing two different tabs, as opposed to previous versions, where it was quite obvious.

i think the favicon is a TBE bug (but not sure)

and about themes...

i drag a theme and nothing happens, no error nothing (and trust me i`m doing everything right) i managed to add themes when first i installed FF without any probs. but after several days i tried to add some others but i just couldn`t. also a small (neverthe less a tunroff) is that i need to restart FFto see the theme change :/

however i`ll wait till 1.0 Final before looking at (what?) alternatives ;)

restarting ff after changing the theme is not a bug on yours... that's how it's supposed to be... it is annoying, none the less. trillian is the same way.

maybe the themes you're installing are not for the newest version?

#223179

all updated for 1.0 PR.

i`m using hills` latest themes. for example i added Smooth Aqua after the install of FF. A week later i wanted to install Smooth Aqua Blue and nothing happens (it doesn`t install, doesn`t show up in the list). same thing with all other themes.

Guys, can I recommend you take a look on the Mozillazine Firefox forum? You're much more likely to find information there about any bugs/gripes you may have than you are there...

For what it's worth, I'd imagine that Shovel (a guy I work with) is probably our resident Firefox/Mozilla expert... Maybe drop him a message asking advice (but don't tell him I sent you :slant: )?

Yeah, understood- I'm looking for help as well, but I also want to know the problems other people are experiencing. Plus, I have an account at A-S, and not at MozillaZine :)

I think your favicon problems have to do with the TBE extension, I don't have that problem and I'm not running the extension, although I DO have a problem with bookmarks displaying the wrong favicon, as in bookmarks displaying favicons from other sites and there doesn't seem to be any way to change them or use your own like you used to.

And yes, the lack of distinction between tabs has everything to do with the skin.

Also, the "maximizing out of the blue" issue I think may have to do with the particular web site, some sites like to resize your browser to the particular size they specify, although I could be wrong, I always have my FF browser maximized and occasionally it reduces to the call of a certain page size.

Firefox is multiplatform, thank you very much.

Starts in about 4s here (2 year old machine), renders pages faster than any previous release.

My issue: It crashes sometimes on opening pop-ups (from links that you clicked on).

exactly my issue as well. it just exits at certain (obviously 'bad') pages. other than that, I must say, its one great browser.

I have exactly the opposite experience... my loading and rendering times have been getting faster and faster with each update.

You might try backing up your bookmarks/settings and deleting your profile (C:Documents and SettingsUsernameApplication DataMozillaFirefoxProfilesxxxxx.xyz) and starting a new one from scratch. A lot of times your profiles can accumulate crud over Firefox updates and extension and theme installs/uninstalls.
