[help] gif programs and edit

i just started doing gifs, and i wanted to convert some parts of wmv and .avi to gif files that are just as good quality. however, i have faced many problems.

1. the free programs sucks. can you guys reccommend me a good decent free one that can convert avi and wmv to gif with the least quality loss. the one i use looked like it was painted with watercolor from a baby's hand with my program.

2. i don't know how to find a good free program that can convert mpegs to avis to wmv. i found many programs that are trial and has many limitations.

3. i finally made a crappy gif with the shareware programs that are crappy, but it was so slow. how do i increase the speed of the "video" gif?

1. i know you're looking for free, but if you have adobe photoshop/imageready, you should be able to convert avi - gif... here's a tutorial to do it:

a free app that is supposed to be good is 'movie 13', you can find that here:

or, in virtualdub, load the avi, then do "save as image sequence." it will export each frame to a .gif file.

even though it only mentions avi/wmv, i know it can also do mpeg. and it's free...

3. whatever gif creation program you eventually settle on should have a speed control setting... do you mean when you edited it, it was fine, but once you saved it, it was slow?

thanks. il be trying these programs. i do have photoshop 7 and image ready. but i ahve no idea to use it. any more insight is appreaciated.

hm. movies 13 is not good for converting though.

since you do have imageready, use that peachpit link i posted above... it seems very thorough. only thing, i accidently posted the link to page 2 of the tutorial. at the end of the link, it should be seqNum=1.

great link. all my problems are solved except of trying to understand the program that i instaled, photo$ 7.0 iti will take some time.
