[help]GMail
You'll have to talk to your network Administrator to get all these features. My school as DeepFreeze, so they allow us to download/install programs, and read GMail.
i dont think that would help. they just dont want us to get to stuff like this
"computers are for school-related use only" blah blah blah
Yeah, the schools are like that...
.
What you're asking, basically, is a way to circumvent web filters. Not always easy to do-- the easiest thing to do is ask the Administrator to unblock a site or two, and come up with a good reason. Initially, A-S was blocked at my school, but I fired off an email asking them to unblock it, and it was done!
If you're more of an adventurous sort, try and find out what filter/router/firewall/method of blocking your school is using, and search on Google for a way to circumvent that.
Best of luck! (Not that I condone the breaking of school rules

There's a hack to circumvent the no-running-exes thing.. does the comp let you edit the registry?
nope, no registry editing.
so i guess i could send them an email telling them to unblock gmail because I need it to get my school files?
Sure, I was actually thinking of doing that myself for my school, but Gmail isn't that important to me...but give it a try, it couldn't hurt.

i have two ways...
to to google's or altavista's language tools and type in the URL for it to translate... then set the "from language to the new language" thing to somthing like "german to english".....
or-
use a really stupid thing to do it.... like from the 80's server... I took the top frame source and made it readable and added a botton frame to it... all ou have to do is enter the URL in the top frame and press enter... This doesnt work for some things so use method 1 too.
upload this zip to a website and open index.html... and GO!
Burn your files to a CD? Maybe they'll even fit on a floppy?
Why does everyone try to get around the filters? It's not a big deal if you can't surf at school. Probably better to pay attention anyway.
*cough* open proxy
cough cough connections tab in ie is not there cough
but ill try that zip file ihartmacz
edit: on second thought that 80s server is just... odd
ok the email didnt work (school policy), the 80s was blocked, some translation sites got me to gmail, but I couldnt login. other translation sites were blocked
ihartmacz: are there any other servers I can use with that html file other than 80s?
i have a school run by nazi's so we cant surf anything at all. so someone found a site that had a small addres bar and whatever you typed in was unblocked, and they found a way to make that site unblockable. i have smart kids at my school. the site name was www.stday.com , but it doesnt work anymore
so try to find something like it i guess.
found this on google...
If you cant be bothered to read all this HERE, go onMy Webpage ... biggrin.gif*

Have YOU ever experienced being "blocked" while using the internet! Either at school, at home at a library, we've all been blocked! Well if you like to have restrictions, thats fine. But if you want/need to get on a blocked site, here's how::::::::::::::::: There are 3 ways to do this;....
1. Go on www.stday.com, once it has loaded, you will see that it is all in some strange language! Dont worry, go straight to the box in the middle of the page - there will be an address already in it. If possible, click on that address and delete it. Type in your own website address in it, and click the button next to it (or press enter!) Voila!!!!! :-)
2. In the address bar at the top of the internet screen, type in www.stday.com/dmirror/http/, then the address of the website you want to get on. For example; www.stday.com/dmirror/http/www.gamewinners.com (a good cheats site, usually blocked!!!!) That is it! The website may take a while to load, but this way, you are not seen going on a chinese website!!!!!!! :-)
3. This is my most recently found way, and i am still not certain that it ALWAYS works! Anyway, go on [ www.vischeck.com ] - this is a normal website for people who are coulorblind! On the left, you will see several headings, one of which will say 'Vischeck' - click on it, and you will see the 'explanation' of the website! Ignore this, and click on the smaller heading saying 'Run Webpages' which has appeared under the heading 'Vischeck'. Now, 'Try Vischeck on a webpage' will appear. Ignore all the "BIG WORDS"!, and type the address of the website you are trying to get on in the box saying 'URL'. Click the button saying "Run Vischeck" and another heading will come up after a while saying; 'Uploding Image - Please Wait' Do as youre told and wait! When it has loaded, click on the link at the top, saying deuteranope simulation, and Voila!!!!!! only downside of this one is that the website is in a funny colour... :-) smile.gif rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif smile.gif
We here at work found a way around Proxy filters... give this a try.
First, convert the IP address of gmail to hex.
EXAMPLE: http://ns2.google.com = http://8E.EF.22.A/
Anyway... convert gmail.google.com to it's IP (64.233.171.107) and then the IP to hex (40.E9.AB.6B) and put that in the address bar.
The hard part is, gmail also uses a redirect, gmail.google.com/gmail, this may pose a problem as well.
Really good proxies will figure out what you are doing, but most will let it pass.
Our proxy has since been upgraded, so it doesn't work here anymore.
But it's worth a shot.
i just tried the ip/hex thing here at home.
i put in 40.e9.ab.6b in my address bar and got no page found
but putting the ip worked
gosh. my classmates are so stupid, they freak out when their "curiosity" comes in place. that's why they blocked hotmail, yahoomail, and all that. why would they open junk mails when it says xxx? i don't get it. i'm not that stupid, but apparently my classmates are, which caused me so much trouble. for now, there's now way. but, something like www.hotmail.dk or something like that will make you use a domain or server :slant: that your school didn't pick out yet and still allows access and it still works.
looks like the first two steps might work
no need for cd. Go to hideipaddress.net and use their php or cgi proxy. It works great.
if the site is being blocked by client side software just reboot into safe mode with networking and disable the software. If it's server side, try watching teachers type there username and passwords. try common accounts like test:test, user:password, network:network, admin:god

ya he tries that and will probably get kicked out of school for attempting to hack the server
