[rant] iPod Woes

Yesterday, I picked up my ipod and pressed the select button to turn it on. Nothing happened. I checked the hold switch and it was off so I flipped it on and then off again. It didnt feel right, as if it wasnt catching or something. I shook my ipod a bit to try to determine what was wrong and heard something bouncing around inside, like a piece of metal or plastic. So, now my iPod is stuck with the hold switch turned on. I am pretty sure the rattling is coming from a piece of solder that broke the last time I used the switch. I thought "Oh, that is no problem. I have a warranty plan and can just head over to Best Buy tommorow to get one of the 'new' ones, which I want anyway"

Boy was I wrong. I looked on the back of the sheet and saw that to get a product replaced, you need a replacement voucher. Best Buy claimed this was even more convienient than waiting in line, so no problem there. I called the number to get the voucher and found out from the automated voice that the voucher would be here in 5-7 business days (ie, next Friday or later). At that point i felt a little pissed but I didnt care, a week isnt too long. Then, I found out while talking to a person that I would first have to wait for a pre-paid postage mail to come, in 5-7 business days and THEN send my whole ipod and everything that came with it in to the company. Now it is going to take at least a month, probably more, to get the voucher so I can go to best buy to pick up my new ipod. This is the last time that I will buy a ****ing product replacement plan from bestbuy.

Well, I got a Dell Jukebox, which had nothing but problems from the start. Mostly Hard Disk problems, it would keep locking up.

Well finally it just stopped working all together. I called up Dell, and got the famous INDIAN tech support. He said he'd issue a replacement. And hung up on me after taking my address and number. I was like, ok wtf.

Well it turned out the very next day I got FEDEX overnight a new Dell JukeBox with a return envelope and prepaid shipping to mail the old one back to dell.

The packing slip said, it was billed to my credit card and if they didn't recieve it in 21 days I'd be billed. So I mailed back the damaged one, and I'm good to go. Brand new JukeBox.

I was really amazed by how fast they replaced it. **** it was easier than going to best buy and talking to someone.

Minus the stupid INDIAN tech. But anyways, I don't really like dell a super bunch, but now I understand why they are so highly rated in customer support.

My 4G iPod broke the second day I got it (I broke it, so to speak...) and I went to my local Apple store and got a new one without any problems.

If you really demand it they'll give it to you. They don't want to lose business, even if you are only going to buy another pair of earphones or an airport.

the rattling noise is normal. it is the hard drive needle clicking against the disk

hey man sorry to hear that about your ipod and best buy. i work for best buy and i can tell you that it was all there psps and prps do. they take so long cause the company that funds the prp/psp wants to make sure that you didnt drop or do the damage on purpose. now i know that sounds like a load but its true. people have used and taken advange of this is the past and thats why it has to be done this way. so dont hold aginst best buy. now i can tell you that it might been fast to take to the store and deal with it cause the geek squad would have looked and it and might have gotten you weeks knocked off the wait time.

again sorry to about your ipod, and good luck.

This doesn't sound as much of a rant as praising the Apple Store (and, in mikekey's case, Dell) :). Not a problem, though- personally, I've always found the guys in the Apple store pretty helpful.

I've never had a problem with my iPod because...wait for it...I don't have one! I feel that if I'm gonna spend $350, or whatever it is, I might as well save it for a G5. That, plus I'm not much of a music person.

Just my two cents :).

P.S: Not that I wouldn't mind someone buying me an iPod-- please, feel free to do so.
