Customizing Mac

I am getting used to using a Mac (PC user) and as I did before on my PC, I would like to start customizing.

I know that you can use Candybar for changing the icons and Shapeshifter for changing skins and Konfabulator for widgets. I have also installed meterologist (free weather app). Is there anything else you anyone can recommend?

I would really love to change the font on the desktop icons and to add labels. I do not like the labels that came with 10.3.5 and do not know how to change the font for the desktop items. Is there a way to change the font and is there an app that would allow for custom labels?
