[preview] FlyakiteSP2 v1.0

I had Seph add a poll to the thread. Basically I want to know what everyone thinks about the seperate shell32.dll section? Should I leave it as a seperate section or just incorporate the file into the DLL section to clean up the options? Does anyone even install shell32.dll just by itself.

If you have any comments on it please let me know in addition to taking part in the poll please.

Keep it separate. It is one of those files that can cause real havoc.

Make people to decide to install seperately, for instance use the installer at first to install other components of your mod and then shell32.dll if they whish.

Okay well, I honestly think I'm pretty much done. I've compiled a 2nd beta build that should be 99.9% near final, so if anyone wants to test it e-mail me or contact me on IM.

The only thing I have left (unless anyone discovers anything else to fix/change) is to update the HTML readme file and prepare a bunch of screenshots.

On that note here is a screenshot of the modded Security Center:

this is more of a long term suggestion...

a lot of times, we see threads pop up asking how to change this icon and which dll file do i change to affect this, etc... maybe, since you have experience with changing the interface and many of the dialogs, you could include with the readme a list of each file and what they are used for.

but like i said, long term, if you want to take it on. just an idea i got while seeing a post asking, 'which dll file do i change to affect this?' ;)

#220925

Honestly, as nice as that would be, something like that would be a massive project in itself. I honestly don't know exactly what every icon in every file is for or when it is displayed.

However, there is a small relatively decent icon/dialog table already done by someone else: Icon/Dialog Table

If someone wants to improve upon that above list and add-to/modify it, I will gladly host it for you, just let me know.

#220927

Ugh... okay so I added some stuff a lot of you using Extract Files Only will appreciate. In the folder you extract everything to there is now an "ExtrasRegistry Tweaks" folder, containing registry files that can do all the tweaks the installer can do. In that folder there is also an uninstall folder that will uninstall the tweaks as well :)

I've also added to the uninstaller the ability to uninstall the wallpapers, visual styles, window blind themes, user pictures, powerdvd and windvd skins

Hi Flyakite!

That sounds great, I am really looking forward for the release. I have a question however. Is it gonna work on a french version? Or will it work only on the english edition?

Thanks in advance and congratulation

and thanks for your great contribution to the aqua community!

#220947

Well I don't have access to international versions to fully test the installer, however I would be more than willing to bet that it will not work natively per se.

What this means is that, you can't just run the installer and have it install the files for you. You CAN still get modded files on your system though. You will have to use the "Extract Files Only" install type and then use BATCHMOD that's included to have it automatically take the resources from MY files and put them into your own.

#220957

Thanks for your explanation chris.

But is it just that the texts are gonna be in english? Because if that's the case I don't mind.. Or may it create some conflicts due to the facts that there are differences other than just the language in the system files?

I don't know if I am clear...

#220961

Well all text would definitely be in English, but more than likely it would also cause conflicts with the system. It depends. If I had access to international XP versions I would install them in VMware and test, but I don't.

Your safest bet is to honestly extract the files and use BatchMod. However it is at your own risk if you decide to install normally. At the very least, if it causes a conflict and you can't get into your system you can use the Recovery Console script command to restore the system (If you have access to the Recovery Console of course)

#220962

Well it looks like all the bugs that have been discovered and the changes I wanted to make have worked. So....this means, there's a 99% chance of the final being released tomorrow.

Thus, if anyone is willing to offer space to mirror the installer I would greatly appreciate it. The final file size is 29.3mb.

I'm currently in my animation class right now but when I get back in a couple of hours I'll take a ton of screenshots to show everyone.

:D:D :P

My email is at

You can probably figure out what [blah] and [splat] mean. ;)

#221001

Ok thanks for all your explanations Chris, I really appreciate

See you and once more, congratulations!

I can't wait looking at the screens

#221011

omg, i just couldn't believe my eyes when i see this pack.

man, how you create an application like that? wOw! is all i can say.

flyakyte - i don't think you need to take animation class dude, with your skill right now, i think you should replace the teacher. just kidding! :D

#221023

Sounds great man!

I have two questions though...

the first is in response to shell32.dll... what exactly does it do? how can it mess up the system if installed improperly? will you be adding an option in the installer to install the new shell32.dll or not? I'm pretty sure if I do it myself, it won't work, and neither will my system haha.

My second question is in regard to winxp Home Edition... has anyone tried this on home edition yet, and if so, does it work properly??

Thanks again!

#221029

ok, I'm a Window$ XP MCE 2005 user do you want any file that I can send it to you so you can test it?

#221037

Wow MCE 2005 already? Didn't it like just come out?

MCE *should* work fine with the files, it's mostly international that's really really different. Don't blame me if it screws up your computer though.

#221049

lol, ok I will wait until its pass the test ;) about the Win xp MCE 2005 so cool and faster more than 2004 BUT it's over $1,700. and I don't want to over write the the Shell32.DLL but Iwill try to config the PearPC! ;)

#221055

#221058

Beta testing is closed now.

In the meantime, if you can provide a mirror, please contact me as soon as possible.

yeah, i got this MCE 2005 too like couple weeks ago. it's pretty good, but my laptop doesn't have TV card & stuff so i just use the XP Pro. SP2 Intergrated version instead.

thanks a lot flyakyte. i have a server but the bad new is that the HTTP is "disabled." i can only use the ftp. however, i'll try my best to help distributing the software and upload it somewhere safe & fast so everybody can share. :P

#221064

As I stated before (in case you missed it), I will gladly mirror it.

I fired off an email at you.

What can I say...this is all better that I could have whished for.

Being one of those lot of you using Extract Files Only -guys using a Dutch version of WinXP pro SP2 I really like this addition.

Now waiting for that release since I wasn't selected as one of the Beta testers :slant: (probably because of the deviation described above).

p.s:

This may be a stupid remark, but why hasn't anybody thought of spreading 'mirrors' via the commonly know p-2-p apps such as e-mule, DC++. etc. What's the problem with spreading though those channels?

#221093

Yeah sorry about not sending you a beta test link, but I had discovered some small glitches I wanted to fix and then just kind of kept fixing and changing things.

Anyway......I can safely say that I am 100% officially done. If anyone is willing to mirror, e-mail me. It's currently 4:30am Chicago time and I'm extremely tired, so I'll get up in about 5 hours and post the screens. If I took the time right now I'd probably die of exhaustion.

See you all in the morning :)

#221098

MUAHAHAHAHA Finally I can have flyakite back on my system, I wrongfully upated to SP2 but now...heck I just might start enjoying it now.

You've probably been working like crazy, you deserve some sleep mate....

Cheers
