Cheapest place for a PowerBook?

After staring at blue screens of death for all my life, it's time for me to get a Mac. Problem is, my dad says I have a $1500 cap. I am looking for a PowerBook with 512mb RAM.

Does anyone know any reliable retail stores online that sell that for around that price? It's ok if it's refurbed.

Thanks,

D

www.powerbookcentral.com, its not only trades, its also sales. great place to go. I sold some stuff on their forums and there's always a good deal.

Check Amazon.com. I know its stoopid but they have pretty good deals on mac

stuff. You can get an ibook for 950 $ plus a 150 $ Mail-In rebate =)

what's your focus on the use?

games, video, phoshop?

documents, hoemwork?

there are diffrent kinds for diffrnet uses. i like the 12 inch ibooks and powerbooks. cheaper, and portable at the same time.

i like amazon.com and i am yet to use the other sites above.

There is no WAY you need a powerbook.

The new iBooks are an insanely great deal.

New 12" iBook - $1129 (after EDU)

- Bluetooth

- Maxed out HD (80 Gig)

Apple BT Mouse - $62

1GB RAM (to bring total to 1.25GB) - $179

- Yes it is generic brand, but it works great (I have one myself)

Total? $1370... $30 cheaper than a standard 12" powerbook after EDU discount.

Only a fool would choose the powerbook.

Or someone (like me) who finds the 15" powerbooks extra resolution really handy or could do with loads of RAM (2GB) or possibly someone who just has money to burn ;) .

Well, you are a different case. :-D

My comments are focused more toward the budget-oriented user looking at 12" laptops (iBook or Powerbook), for the 15" is out of his price range.

My Apologies!

Or someone like me who's all that, and doesn't like the look of the iBooks and is generally an aluminium ***** :P

In my opinion..

Shiny White Plastic > PB Aluminum...

Now if they had iPod mini material/colors on powerbooks.. that would be exciting! :-)

Shiny White Plastic = uber-scratchable

not good

I am a digital video student and I also need a cheap powerbook. I need the 1.5Ghz G4, and at least 1GB of RAM. It's probably gonna be about $2500. I have no money at all, so would anybody like to donate any money to me? :)

please :)

what? do you think this is donate-o-soft.org? If you dont have the money, do something to earn it or dream about it like the rest. Dont go asking strangers for donations...

Okay, i'm tired of people thinking that proc speed and casing is the only difference in a Powerbook and an iBook. There are many differences... only one of which is the bus speed. Which is quite important. I am not sure what the actual differences are, but they are different. Which makes the powerbook a lot faster and better for video stuff.

Good news guys, my dad just ordered a refurbed 15" from the Apple store for my birthday! :D

Speed increase is minimal for the price difference between Powerbook and iBook. I wasn't going in to every small detail, just pointing out a generally accepted fact.
