XMLMeter / Weather etc proxy problem

I'm trying to load the weather plugin and I can't seem to get it going (other configs load fine such as iCal or clocks)..

I suspect it has to do with my work proxy which is running at port 8008.. I am entering the following in the proxy host name textbox (in configuring the meter)

hostname.xyz:8008

there is no username and no password... any thoughts would be appreciated!

Side idea: Admins are, well, unimaginative. Confirm that they do use 8008 and not 8080, as sampled in various books... Best place to find out is your browsers LAN and proxy settings.
