[help] How can I make a skyline cut-out in Photoshop?

I have made a kind of skyline cutout in Photoshop before but I have forgotten how to do it. When I last did it I remember selecting an eyedropper and then clicking on some tool which highlighted the lines in my drawing with a moving dotted line. Then I clicked copy and I pasted the copy into a new file and I had a skyline cut out. The problem is that I don't remember what tool it is that I am suppose to use. I am using Photoshop CS. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know.

My guess is the Magic Wand Tool (w)

It selects areas in a picture containing a specific color.

the wand tool is very bad at selecting. best bet is to use the pen tool set on draw to path and then hit transform path to selection

Try going to the "Select" menu and choosing "Color Range"

Can be useful for a lot of the same color or similar. You can adjust how much you choose on the fly.

It still amazes me the amount of people who have obviously gone out and spent all that money on the latest software - only dont read the manual. That is of course if they have one? :mad:

how about you use the Magnetic Lasso Tool (Shft + L) or even try the extract tool (Alt+Apple+X).

Also, copying a certain channel would probably do the trick. Theres a lot of photoshop tutorials dealing with extractions. If you just want the sky, the extraction tool would probably be the best bet.
