Completely inane (OS related?) trivia

1. In the movie The Thing by John Carpenter, there is a character named Mac (short for Macready) and another named Windows (the nickname of the radio operator). At some point in the movie Mac torches Windows with a flame thrower. (Of course this film was made before MS Windows or the Macintosh existed -- a premonition maybe?)

2. In WWII, the German Wermacht had a main battle tank called a Panzerkampfwagon or Panzer, which is 'Panther' in English. The follow-up tank to take its place later in the war was called the Tiger. [edit: I was wrong about this one - see next post]

No, no, no. You misunderstand. I guess I need more smilies in there. I was being sarcastic. You had put "Imao" i.e. - in my arrogant opinion. No worries. It's all cool.

Anyway, your English is way better than my German, so hats off to you.

cheers

Actually, the german Wehrmacht named their tanks after wildlife predators and the current Bundeswehr continues to do so, so pazl is right from a wrong deduction line...

Panther, Tiger, Marder (kind of ferret), Wiesel (weasel), Leopard I & II, Fuchs (fox, spent my compulsory military service driving this one) to name a few.
