Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was any way to delete or stop certain programs from starting up everytime I open windows. these are just programs working in the background like IPodService taht comes with Itunes and iTunesHelper and so on. I dont want any unnessary programs taking away my memory usage. Thanks again!
iPod Service is a tough one to get rid of- restarts every time you start up iTunes.
For a built-in Windows one (like Windows, not that good 
), go to Start-->Run and type in msconfig . Go to the Startup tab, and check/uncheck what you want.
For a far better one overall, I like Startup Run.

No need to DL thirdparty apps....Msconfig is one way, the services panel is another, you can do it from Windows Xp's control panel...go into Administrative Tools then into services, from there you can disable the ipod service.
OR go to run, type "services.msc"
Yeah, but some would argue that the third-party apps are better.
If you fiddle with things like these as often as I do, I feel a third-party app is a must.
msconfig, and the other mentioned ways will certainly do the job, though.

Back on topic, thanks for the tip guys. Got rid of quite a few Startups items that I didn't need 
go to run and type in msconfig. Then go to the startup tab
Sorry self, but it looks like I'm gonna be betting on mubach in a fight.

P.S: However, you can create new startup tasks with Startup Run if you want, as well as specifying what type of Startup the program is (Machine Run, User Run, or...)

Disabling startup items using msconfig is not the recommended method.
msconfig is used to troubleshoot your boot process.
Disable services from services.msc as stated by mubach
Disable other programs by deleting entries from either HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun or HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun after you have backed up these keys by exporting them as .reg files in case something goes horribly wrong.
Oh yeah, there's always the Startup folder in your profile and the All Users profile as well.
