Aqua-Soft ForumsOK, I've checked out the sticky topic in the Icons forums on the tutorial for converting Mac icons to Windows. However, this refers to an older version of StuffIt. I've just tried to extract a Mac .sit icon set using the latest version of StuffIt, and all the icon files end up as 0kb in size. Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this, and what I could do to fix this? Thanks

Thanks Sputnikk. I've had a good look around all the settings and none of them even sound remotely related to conversions from Mac icons. I've also looked for the settings mentioned in the xicons.com tutorial, and they don't seem to be there either :confused:
Make friends with a Mac user? Get them to export 'em for you..[/smug grin]

I'm assuming your using 8.5. This is what I do, just view them first in Stufffit, by right-clicking and go to view. then while in th stuffit browser, just extract them to your choosing. Spits those .rsrc files right out

The best way to unpack the .sit, .bin & .hqx archives is to uninstall StuffIt v8.5 and install v7.5. Older version is easier in use, coz You have to change three things in settings and - Voila - You can unpack as many archives as you want. If You want some details, just whistle...

Try to google-it... I've found v7.5 thanx to it.
And here's those detailed data:
1st - In OPTIONS, select GENERAL and change "Double Click action..." to "Expand".
2nd - the same tab. Uncheck the update and the tooltips, lower recents to 1 and for your own comfort, create shortcuts for "Expander" and "DropStuff" (erase the last one 'coz I bet You won't need it)
3rd - next we've got the tab called EXPANSION. Check "Continue to expand when expansion result is a single file". Then check to "Always" create the surrounding folder. Archive deleting remains unchecked.
4th - Tab COMPRESSION - switch all to SIT.
5th - Tab ARCHIVE - check only "Compress archives instead of shortcuts", leave the other options unchecked.
6th - Skip the tab "ARCHIVE SEARCH", and continue with "DESTINATION". Both settings should be "Same as original". Temp Folder - as You wish.
7th - most important tab - "CROSS PLATFORM". Best settings are:
"Never" convert text files to win format;
save MacFile in MacBinary format - check "when a file contains resource fork";
"Never" add file extention (for those using IconWorkshop v5.03 to convert macicons)
or
"Add if no extention" - for >IW v5.03 Users.
8th - Last tab - ASSOCIATIONS - at least associate with StuffIt .sit, .hqx and .bin
That should solve all Your problem with Alladin's archives.

Haha, got it and it's working nicely.
My new question is how the heck do I disable StuffIt automatically creating a folder called " My Archives" in the My Documents folder? I tried going to the Destination tab in Options, and changed the value that mentioned My Documents/My Archives so it didn't mention a folder called My Archives , but no luck.
Any ideas ashdevil?

NiteCrawler. There's no such possibility AFAIK... That's the "price" You (and all of StuffIt users) have to pay for this yet unnecessary and useful tool.
Just replace it's icon with the one I attached (I really dunno who's the maker, coz I found it accidentally. But it's marvellous) and You'll see, that it isn't so bothering at all.
(At least, You can set it's attributes to "hidden" and toggle off displaying of files with such attr.)
Yeah, I was planning to set it as Super-Hidden if you didn't have a solution...
I HATE products that do things like this! It was hard enough removing the context menu...

I hate such sneaky software too, but maybe it's Microsoft's guilt... They are permanent in such actions (but I'm wondering why AlladinSoft made it. They don't place such s*** in software for MacOS). Yuck!
I know this is an old thread, but I just went through this myself and found out the hard way that Stuffit 8.5 has a (well known) bug that won't let you just right-click>Expand... I use version 8.01, which works like it's supposed to with no tweaking the settings... To get it, just use Allume Software's archive. Simply Log in or browse to ftp://ftp.allume.com. Click on pub (pub means public so don't be afraid), then archive, and it will lead you straight to the older versions of some of their software. Thank god for software archives! Now I'm off to try, and, if she treats me well, buy Axialis Iconworkshop. =)
