Front page news post ideas

I like the way the news page is working lately with lots of interesting and informative posts - lets hope it continues.

The one thing that stood out to me recently is that with so many news posters contributing to the front page, perhaps there should be some format guidelines made up so that all news posts fit the feel of Aqua Soft.

I know the text is formatted etc etc - but how about supplying new posters with tools/resources for adding images i.e. nice Aqua bordered boxes, pre-built thread/download buttons, layout templates etc.

I think this maybe a bit more work - but would create a much stronger image for Aqua soft and show that we are keen on the details as the OS that we follow.

I agree, and I think the new news posting system is working very well. I think that having a set layout would also be a good idea. Personally, I would say that for daily newsposts, there should be a strict set of layout guidelines, and images for 'thread', 'download', 'screenshot' etc would work very well. However, this is already done to an extent with the new system.

For weekly posts however, I feel that having image headings (as with the current visual style review) works quite well, and it sets that particular post apart from others because of the increased content of the news item. Maybe there should be a set standard for this, but I feel that each post has an individual approach, and different layouts may work better or worse in different scenarios.

I'm not saying introduce 'strict' guidelines, more a suggestion of how things should be structured and the tools to do it. I'm no News Poster so I'm unaware of the tools available to you guys - but from a viewers point of view, a universal style and look will only help Aqua-soft.

Aqua XP's is nice, but in my opinion it's the layout of items (folded corners etc) which make the page look good. The news articles still are fairly disjointed, and are by no means all the same layout.

There are currently some layout rules for daily posters, namely that there is a desctiption of the item, followed by links/images etc, followed by a general info section detailing the app or software that the featured item applies to. This works very well at the moment I think.
