First of all, hello there.
I saw that some people have their IM buddy list display in their desktop, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to do that? I tried searching for it, but couldn't find anything. I will post a screenshot of bzeitler's Desktop (found in the October screenshots thread). The buddy list is located on the left side of his desktop.

That's actually basically a window without boundaries (It's a normal IM client, modded so it doesn't have an edge).
I think you can mod Miranda to do this, although I would PM bzeitler for details.

You can do that with Trillian Pro as well.
I have Trillian Pro, to make a really minimal window, you'll have to make a skin...
or, you can use Samurize in conjuction with Trillian to show when buddies are online/offline.

you can get the clean look with the tweakui plugin as well (that's what i do, since i'm not going for a mac look).
you can just drag and drop contacts onto your desktop with trillian. Just click and highligth and drag to the desktop
You can drag your whole contact list this way.
