Aqua-Soft ForumsHey guys. I just got done modding like a zillion files and I see all these SP2 files coming about, and I only have PRO SP1. Should I go to SP2 and go through the whole replacing method again? And if so why go to SP2?

SP2 is the biggest let-down yet from MS, IMHO.

Doesn't it give you the option to roll back after you've installed it? - I've not had any problems with it personally. There are still security issues, and not much has been fixed <_< , but it's not made my personal experience with XP any worse.
May I ask what problems you all had with the pack?
And yes you can uninstall the pack if you don't like it, but why risk damaging something.
i'd have to say SP2 is good and bad, to be honest. i can't complain really, so that's about it for the good bit. system load-up has decreased by 3 seconds 
however, i find under SP2, my entire system suffers more lag. the pop-up blocker which MS have put in too is incredibly annoying - every time i download a file it says pop-up blocked. for that one reason, i prefer the google toolbar, because it also has the added functionality of search.
the problem is, i've updated all my software to match SP2, and i can't be bothered undoing everything
the only apparent bonus of SP2 is :die spam: really, it's hopeless at doing that, AVG Anti-Virus and Spybot Search and Destroy do it already well enough, and for free
given the chance, i'd get rid of the whole thing, but i'm just too damn lazy
I'd say install it. I've had no problems at all, and everything is running more smoothly. Great release from MS.
SP2 is the best thing from Microsoft yet. I've had no problems with it at all, and it runs brilliant.
I'd say go for it.

I have had zero problems with SP2. I havent seen much benefit in having SP2 installed, but it has kept its mouth shut and hasnt bothered me ever since i first installed it. The only "problem" i have is that it increased my start-up time a few seconds, but thats it. At the microsoft website, you can view the "Top Ten Reasons to Install SP2" and read thru it to see if its worth it to you to install it. and if you dont like it, then you can always uninstall it.
i agree with loofygun and skyliner, sp2 is great. my computer is faster than ever.
Some third party applications have issues with SP2, but other than that, it works fine.
I say that because most of the apps with issues use questionable programming techniques.
Yes you can remove it by going into add/remove programs and it does uninstall completely.
Performance boosts or decreases are going to vary based on system configurations, so saying it makes my PC faster or slower is pretty much irrelavent. You will not know if there will be any gains in performance until you install it.
I've ran it under several different configs in Virtual PC and got different results for each, some good and some bad.
Give it a try... if you hate it, remove it.

Yeah, no probs with sp2 here.
No notable advantantages either;
Firewall (I've got zonealarm suite), pop-up blocker (Opera Browser allready has a BETTER one), security center (do we need it???)
WMP 9 (I use WinAMP/K-lite megapack)...

Well from what i've heard about SP2 it all depends on your luck. For example, for me it didn't do anithing good, but it didn't do any damage neigther, but i've heard friends who's systems became unstable with SP2, and others that said their system was never as stable as now.
I'd say the best way is to save all your work, make an upgrade, and if you don't like it uninstall it (it appears in the "Add-Remove programs" list).
Or, if you have enough place and another partition, you could install XP on that and add the SP2, see if you like it and if so then upgrade your "main" installation to.
Just my 2 cents.
I'm really regretting it. The first time I installed it my PC wouldn't boot, and I had to do a restore, which killed my default profile and now I'm having to reinstall everything, and many programs randomly crash now that worked fine before. (Firefox 1.0PR, Jedi Knight, Opera, Unreal Tournament, etc...)

Did you have any spyware/adware/malware (or even traces of them) on your Windows install before you installed SP2? Those pieces of crap "programs" will completely screw up everything in your registry, system folders, startup items, etc and can actually stop your computer from booting if SP2 is installed while they're still around.
