Hi there, I was wondering are there any solutions to wmv embeded file playing problem
on firefox on manual way?
I tried regitry fix file and even adjust file type on firefox to play wmv file on media player.exe but unsuccessful playing wmv file extension file on firefox......
It should work fine. We use it in work for media dev and test on all browsers.
WIth the 9/10 control you get it to work in FireFox using the EMBED tag and for IE you use the OBJECT definition.
If this isnt a site you are making and viewing problems, then there isn't anything you can do if they didn't use EMBED also. As to clicking on a link and playing with Media Player, I'm not having any issues with 1.0Preview, but I agree it was a pain in the ass the previous versions.
Then you are the one of the lucky one.....You will be suprised how many people are complaining about active x control not displaying on firefox especially embeded control one.....such as wmv, wma etc......
I guess mozilla's awared of it, but cannot really give a solution out to it....
There is one guy who put out the solution which is move netscape plug in to firefox and edit the .js file, but I wasn't successful to display wmv file within browser itself.....
I'm using the last method you've mentioned True, and it works for me in .9.3,
but its not really worth it.
Probably because its a hack, it(the locked down activex component) causes firefox to become unstable: you can't change the volume on the embedded player as that will instantly crash firefox. It seems to make firefox unstable even when there isn't an embedded movie on the page your visiting, which i don't quite understand(i didn't make ANY other changes, and after doing this I started getting lots of problems where before i had none).
I'd say that with the activex component 'installed', firefox is 100X more unstable for me.
I agree that once it is in and working FF does become unstable. None of the Mozilla/FireFox/Nutscrape browsers have been good with ActiveX controls. Though ActiveX shouldn't be called unless you specify FF to use an Object tag, which is a struggle in itself.
We do a lot of multimedia apps within web pages and I also tear my hair out trying to make it work in all browsers. Hopefully a promotion very soon will take me away from the hell of it
