[release] Schreibtisch 1.0 Beta 2

HI,

this is the second release of my wallpaperchanger, written in VB6.

- It now supports multi-language (german and english included for now).

- New design of folder-select and a little Mac-like combo-box.

- show and hide menubar

It also needs the special foldertree in the app-folder, like it is in the Mac OS system (pictures not included):

AppFolder

->Desktop Pictures

-->Abtract

-->Nature

-->Solid Colors

You can use bmp, jpg and gif files.

anyways, this is pretty beautiful Fonebone.

very nicely done.

only suggestions:

1. lower memory use when minimized to tray.

(only important if using it to automatically change wallpapers)

2. transitions when wallpaper switches.

(not important)

3. clean up shadows on the window. They're seperated by a gap right now.

4. have it remember what the toolbar state was when closed. When you open it now, the toolbar is shown even if it was hidden when you closed the window.

5. make it skinnable

6. have fun

Just suggestions... its really a nice little app.

maybe have the option to choose how the wallpaper shows, centered, tiled, stretched?

when i applied one, it made a 2 inch square in the middle of my screen. i had to go into the display properties to change it to tiled.

by the way, how did you get the combo box like that? is there a tutorial somewhere i can check out?

A bug: whenever I open the app and want to change the language, it crashes. I just click 'English' on the list and after 1 or 1.5 seconds a popup appears saying 'Run-time error '-2147024770 (8007007e)': Automation error'. It crashes and gives me the same message when I want to close it.

I'm running WinXP SP1 Polish here.

to 5. I think, there won't be a skinnable version of this app, because it should be a clone of the Mac OS X app and I think, this isn't skinnable.

I will take another look on the real Mac-App ... but I think it only stretchs the pictures to fit the screen.

There is no tutorial for this Combobox but it's just a little trick: Build a button, that looks like this Mac-Combobox and on click it opens a new form, only filled with a Listbox ;o)

The last thing to do is, to stick this new form over the button and make it always on top.

Sorry for this error... I really don't know why this happens. Try to delete the settings.ini, open the app, make your selections and close... Start again ;o)

And the window should be moveable... I'm working on this too.

Is it possible to add other directories in the directory-panel? (I have my wallpapers on a different partition)

You just have to push "choose folder..." and you are able to select the folder you want on any partition you want.

OK, but could I make my folder the standard? because if I close schreibtisch it's gone after restarting. Maybe I'm asking to much.. so don't feel offended. I like the program very much !

another feature that maybe a good idea to it would be to x,y coordinate in the case that users would like to have a specific placement of smaller images?

whether it is a feature on mac... i know it isn't but it'd be nice to have. Great job on this release...
