G3 Mac Modifying

I just got my first mac, a G3 Powermac Blue system. Can anyone tell me what I need to get and where to update it to today's standards?

It currently runs OS 9.1 but it'll be updated to OS X in a day or two. Office 2004 is going on as well.

64MB of PC100 RAM -- 6 GB Harddrive

(WOO HOO!!!)

what is your ram

if it is 64 then you cannot run osx...

even a good performance would demand 512+mb

I don't know what bull people are spreading, but it stinks. OS X will run perfectly well on 128MB of RAM, if it didn't they wouldn't ship Macs with that amount. The only problem is that it will lag some. 512MB would be the minimum if he's going to want to run 4+ intensive apps at once.

For upgrading, check out FastMac.com. Have fun! :)

im sure the reason to use macs is for speed and that is why we use a lot of intensive apps :)

I have used OSX 10.3 on a B&W G3 Tower and it ran jut fine. But I actually am not sure how much memory was in there however I doubt that it's over 512mb because my college's G4's have that much memory. If you shop around however you can find a G4 upgrade for your G3 and I would recommend a new video card as well though for just OSX alone the one that comes with it seems to be just adaquate enough. But then again I only did adobe pagemaker stuff on that machine so it's probably best to upgrade the video card.

A few personal reasons off the top of my head;

• Stability

• Ease of use

• Good looking

The list goes on. ;)
