Need Help Saving Windows Xp

Ok, I was trying out different filing system that were out there as an explorer alternative, I uninstalled Explorer, but I've lost all ability to open folders. The only folder that opens is My Documents, any other I get an error saying "This file does not have a program associated to open it with it." I've tried going through System Restore.........still doesn work.

Tried going through the registry and getting a backup copy, I copied it, reset and everything, that doesn't work either. Anyone know what I can do, if I only i knew what to associate my folders with (Yes I know it's explorer, I tried that, but it opens in seperate folders everytime (I even told it to open in same folder, no dice.), and my A drive goes off as if Explorer was starting up for the first time, very annoying.)

Anyone know way? A program or something?!

i would love to know what you mean by uninstalling explorer?

#215734

Bleh sorry, didn't mean to say I uninstalled explorer, I uninstalled the explorer alternative. I was using Servant Salamander 2.5 they said that explorer would be uneffected, but when I uninstalled Servant Salamander, Explorer no longer functions

Yeah, I had the same sorta problem... you need to go to folder options

and restore explore as default. Pm me your msn contact and ill help you out.

Yeah Bz, I tried that, but when I choose "explore" and "open" (the default windows options) it still says that the file is no longer associated with a program.

Ok, here we go.

Follow the directions in this post: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?s...ndpost&p=177958

(the post by Pe8er), expect instead of " enter something like this: C:\mypathtonexplorer\nexplorer.exe %1. ", put

%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /e,/idlist,%I,%L

Follow the rest of the directions (ignore the %1 part) and you should be fine. Make .reg backups of everything first, though (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ File, \Folder, and \Drive).

Hope this works! Tell me if it doesn't,

Night it doesn't qwork, I get a new error now, it says windows can not find the folder I was trying to open, it says that for all my folders.

Ah! I was able to fix it, I searched for Open, and found that it was missing all the branching info that the original Open had, luckily I still had that info on my PC, so I just went in manually and made the branch for all "Open" that related to folders. It now works again!!
