Aqua-Soft ForumsI just read over at neowin somethin very interesting a site called http://www.transitive.com has made a program called QuickTransit which i cannot find out where to buy for normal users. In any case it fully emulates any program from any platform with practicly no hit in performance! Just think we can finally put all these aqua apps away and the dock and just run the real thing lol.
Why Not Run The Real Stuff With Quicktransit?

Looks interesting, but it looks like it'll cost a good bit :naughty: they don't even have a buy button, just an email link to a "sales queries" account.
I read this at neowin earlier as well, and the first thing that came to mind was running OSX on an X86. I guess we'll just have to see how good this technology really is. I also agree with otohime, I'm sure it will be rather expensive, as mostly anything where you have to inquerie about a product is.

Here are some interesting snippets:
The company is initially going after the server and mainframe markets because that's where the money is, but said it will eventually focus on desktop PCs and consumer electronics. It claims QuickTransit will support almost any pairing of processor and operating system.
mmm... osx on a platform that has real games, cheap hardware, etc.
Transitive said QuickTransit allows a foreign application to do everything it does on its native platform, with 100 percent functionality.QuickTransit fully supports accelerated 3-D graphics and about 80 percent computational performance on the main processor. It requires no user intervention: It kicks in automatically when a non-native application is launched.
Transitive said QuickTransit supports software written in any programming language, and that its modular architecture allows modules to be swapped in and out depending on the processor and operating system.
Unlike most other emulators, QuickTransit translates blocks of code rather than a line at a time. In addition, it identifies and stores the most commonly executed code.
Definitely sounds interesting, though its too early to tell what is company hype and what is truth. 'Universal Emulator' sounds cheesey though

If its true, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the OS world...
The article also said that it would first go to enterprise then down to the home user. The home user isn't going to pay a ton of money for this, so I'm sure it will be somewhat reasonable ($100-200?), but it will probably be stripped down a bit for the end user.

other then that, no. I don't believe crap like that. Pearpc has been in the works for quite a while now, with really smart developers, and they've been able to emulate it quite well, and only some aspects of it. I highly doubt this will be able to run osx games. <_<

Not to spoil any Win32 users dreams but it says on the site...
"Operating system call mapping from any Unix/Linux-like operating system or any mainframe operating system to any Unix/Linux-like operating system is supported."
Win32 (Windows XP etc) ain't a Unix/Linux like operating system.
It also seems like it will only run programs, not operating systems.
Sorry this topic is kinda old, but it's still 5th on the list so I figured why not...
These are also the guys that said microsoft could use this software to make XBox games run on the XBox2. Could, not will, mind you.
That means Intel -> PPC... interesting.
