[help] How Can Replace The Shell32.dll After Sp2

Anyone can help me?

I know this is a basic question, but I really need help.

Before updated to SP2, I can use the replacer to replace the shell32.dll in the system32 folder. But after updated to SP2, when I use the replacer (the newest version) to replace the shell32.dll in sustem32 folder. Everything seems great untill.................. suddenly a popup windows came out, saying because the shell32.dll reconfigure my memory, so *****.dll something can not run normally. I have to rechange back to the ugly shell32.dll from Microsoft. :6 >.< :rant: :cry:

Who can help me? Any suggestion will be appreciated greatly.

How Can I Replace the Shell32.dll file in Windows XP Pro SP2?

or need I replace other file in other folder for the shell32.dll?

but I know that the replacer does not need to run under the safe mode. Before the SP2 update, I can replace any file with it in the normal mode, but after Sp2, the shell32.dll can be replaced easily too, but just say something that a unrecoginzed version shell32.dll reconfigure the memory, so i can not read any auto-run CD in my CD-rom.

Anyone have a idea?

Be warned! The shell32.dll and many of the system files in SP2 ARE INCOMPATIBLE with their SP1 equivalents AND WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS if you install SP1 files in an SP2 installation. These may range from mild weirdness (like dialogue boxes not working etc) to major stuff like forced full XP reinstalls.

Otherwise, if you actually have a modded SP2 shell32.dll, then in my experience, the replacer should work...if not, I hear the author was/is working on a new SP2 version - anyone here know any more about that or can post a link?

EDIT: sorry, I didn't read your original question carefully enough - I see you've got the new replacer already! ...what SP2 shell32 are you using? I'm still using SP1 until MS has some of the kinks ironed out (and until there is actually a nice SP2 mod (SnowE2 anyone?) available)

Actually, I used the shell32.dll contained in the StefanKa system files for SP2 made by Franziose, and because it is in German, so I used the great Batchmode to modify it to Japanese version shell32.dll ('cause my system is in Japanese). But I have no idea why I could not replace the shell32.dll with the newest replacer. Maybe I should replace it in other folder besides the system32 folder.

ok. I redownloaded the newest replacer, and replaced the shell32.dll again with that. this time, it is ok, nothing wrong, just sometimes the Norton Antivirus and firewall popup some warning saying that my system is incompatiable to norton now. but it is OK. I donot mind. Anyway, i got the beautiful interface again. It matters. Thank you.

sp2 caused some problems with norton. do a live update and get the patch. otherwise, distable the security service (if you know what you're doing).

Yeah, I C. But it is not the SP2 that caused problems with norton, before I replaced shell32.dll, they were getting along well with each other. And I always keep my norton getting the liveupdate. Just the new replaced shell32 has some problem with norton, But it is OK. I donot think it matters so much. Anyway, I just ignore that. It runs well. And long before, I'd already turn off the windows' security center. I know what I am doing.
