Aqua-soft Emotes

Hi guys I was wondering if timan would possibly get permission to use some of A-S emotes on my Halo 2 clan forum?

#213310

Are you talking about the ones currently on this site? I don't think they belong to any one person since the originals are distributed through Invision Power Board and there are numerous customes with the same style all over the internet, though I don't know of any that is still available,

#213313

well thats why I was asking since some of the emotes look custom and I dont want to take them without permission

I nominate for the least understandable post of the coming week. -_-

@Simone; That's more than a min'. :6

In the posting page, when you are looking at the smilies, the :moon: looks like a normal smilie :) because of the stationary beginning, but is in fact :moon:.

On that note; I wonder where the wub smilie went..

#213778

Actually, smilies are overrated.

I'm considering removing all of mine.

They take away from the posts and seem a tad bit childish.

Not to mention they're abused.

I agree - perhaps emotes that arn't smilies but like symbols. I think most of us can distinguish between someone joking or being serious and a wink emote is uneccesary.

#213798

@Duckie: I agree with you, but on the other hand, communication via internet is so specific, that almost impossible without them. They make it easier to express emotions, which is good, but make irony cheap - which is bad :(

#213803

then we should keep only the main ones which come with the board.

#213909

We should have some A-S and Ae-S emotes so you could use them like this...

You should go to for that question/release/request/etc.

or

You should go to post-39256-1134857307_thumb.jpg for that question/release/request/etc.

They are the right size too... :D:)post-39256-1134857307_thumb.jpg

or even...

That sounds like an post-39256-1134857307_thumb.jpg thread for me!

Do you have any ideas how many people these "rules" here have killed? No witty remarks, no having fun, no emotions, no offtopic discussions. I'm suprised no sarcastic remarks still isn't in there. While you're at it while don't you just delete all the members in the database since they don't do anything but post comments, and leave the developers / designers. <_

I agree with some of what you're saying; I'm glad the mods here don't follow the rule to the letter, or I would be leaving. For example, our little Appple Conspiracy thead wasn't causing any harm, it was mostly on-topic, and it was in General Discussion. Some people come here not just for the Aqua, but for the community ;)

For the record, I'm not flaming anyone, or anything like that, this is just my opinion. :)

Here's an idea - you write a better set, that keep the community from turning into a bloody great flame-fest.

I'm quite frankly sick and tired of everyone *****ing about A-S not being this way, and not being that way. I very much doubt that the "rules" have "killed" (why in the hell are you using quotes - it doesn't make your point any better - try italics in future) anyone, in a literal sense... If, however, you mean people who've left because they felt the rules were overzealous, or overly restrictive, then just maybe they were in the wrong place. Much as I hate to sound like Duckie, this is Aqua-Soft not, MyOwnPersonal****tingGround-Soft.

We left General Discussion because we know people don't just wanna talk Aqua, but let's be honest - things were getting stupid. People were ruining perfectly valid threads with their off-topic-ness.

Don't get me wrong - I like a good laugh as much as the next guy, but there's a time and a place, and it was getting to the point that you couldn't open a thread without people taking it and turning it into a wannabe comedy club.

And you know what? Tim and I don't really care if those people leave, and I think most of the staff who are genuinely dedicated to the community or to Aqua emulation feel the same. These members aren't here to support the developers and artists of the community in any meaningful way - they're full-time comedians, or so they seem to think - so let them go to a comedy forum, where everyone will tell them how completely inane and frankly crap their "humour" is.

We have never, at any point, asked that people don't have fun, or make jokes, only that people don't go around screwing up what others are working to build here. If that's too much to ask, then those people, quite frankly, don't deserve to get the chance to appreciate the work that goes into both the community itself and the works released here.

How about an example of how much time I put into Aqua-Soft, eh, for example's sake...

I typically wake up, on a weekday, at about 6:30 am, get showered, dressed, breakfasted, and go to work. When I arrive at work, at 8:00 am, I load Firefox, and open three tabs - A-S, Ae-S, and Gmail (where my notifications go). I proceed to read all my topic and forum subscription notifications (yes, I subscribe to every single forum, so I get an e-mail for every topic that's started, and for every post that's made to topics I subscribe to), and proceed to deal with anything I can see at first glance that needs dealing with. After about 30 minutes of sorting things out at Aqua-Soft (and, to a lesser extent, Aero-Soft), I get to work, stopping every so often to refresh my tabs and check any new posts. Lather, rinse, and repeat, until about 12, whereupon I spend my lunch hour... Checking A-S! At about 1, I get back to work, and continue as I did in the morning, checking almost constantly until 5:00 pm, when I drive home. When I get home, what do I do? Spend most of the evening posting on A-S, talking to friends from A-S (Seph, Unbe, and Tim, usually), and doing anything around A-S that needs doing (making the forum skin, tweaking rules, fixing database/PHP issues, banning bad members, trying to resolve conflicts).

I spent months working on the current structure of the forums, and on the rules which you so happily dismiss as killing off members. I requested comments from the entire community, in this very forum. How many people responded and seriously contributed? The staff, and about five members. Were you among those serious respondess? No. Were you even among the members who briefly commented? No. Hell, did you even bother to read the thread in what is possibly the most important forum here? Probably not. If you had, you would have commented, and I would have talked to you about what we could do to make the rules better. Tim (and I, to a lesser extent) has tried to keep A-S as a fair place, and with some semblance of democracy, rather than dictatorship, but the problem with any democracy is that it doesn't mean a damn thing unless the people living in it take action.

When you dedicate this much time to Aqua-Soft from your life, you can come talk to me.

Did you ever take action, by putting forward your comments and concerns to myself, or any other member of staff, in fact, regarding the rules? No, you didn't, or I'd have heard about it, so don't go crying like a ****ing baby because you didn't take your chance to have your say.

Topic Closed.

If you want to carry this on, send me a message.

my 2 cents - i agree with you totally and what is more, this should be pinned - Pe8er. (Sorry for invading your post, bud)

Good post Stevie.

One more thing I'd like to add, I was all for killing the forums when Aqua-Soft was shut down. I have yet to see my reasons for killing these forums proven wrong.

Aqua-Soft survived quite nicely the first year it was open without and solid forum. The forums were focused on for the community, but it seem like all people want to do around here is crap on each other.
