Next Update of YzD

Here's what I read at designtechnika.com. Lookin' good!

For those that are curious, Mr. Yamaguchi has planned several new features that I think we all will enjoy. For the next release look for:

* The multi-frame puff effect.

* Bouncing icon.

* The indicator (triangle) of running applications.

* Shortcuts on dock to system (my computer, my network).

* Fill mode of a background (tile or stretch).

* Two rows for the icons in the icon property dialog box.

Further down the road he plans on adding:

* Folder pop up menu.

* Clock, recycle bin by plug-in.

Now why use plug-ins for the clock and recycle bin? For those of you who use Litestep I think you can see the flexibility this would allow. Instead of hard coding an item, plug-ins would allow the flexibility to design numerous types of plug-ins. Mr. Yamaguchi hasn't released the details to me about how he is writing the plug-ins but when more details are available they will be posted.

I've never worked on OS X before so can someone tell me what spring-loaded folders are???

Oh...and Taha...did Mr. Yagamachi say when the next update to Y'z Dock will be released??

well it's very cool to see how fast the dock development is going for all the docks floating around on this forum. I would VERY much like to try out Yz Dock, does it really ONLY work on XP or is there maybe a chance for win2k support?....

yes full mode background for stretching bg images =) I wanted that since 0.1. I hope those options for like bouncing is optional so you can turn it off or on cuz seeing it bounce every single time may get annoying after awhile. I wish he'd add thumbnail icons for IE windows, not for apps though. M. Y. if your reading this what about adding an effect to make windows fade out when they are minimized to the dock?

what about putting opened apps in the second half of the dock, like right after the bar. Like the real bar. I guess it would have something to do with linking to the tray. Would be a cool feature, but I wouldn't want it for all the tray items, just some of them, or only the ones that were just opened through the dock.

But so far, there's some great stuff. Good work! I love the dock.

genie effect is not a dock function...

Its a function of the OS its controls are

completely independent of the dock...

Wish people would get that...

Thast right Mageguru.. finally someone agrees about this.. the genie isnt a "dock" function althought it may look nice just use windows FX2 for some minimizing effects.. although noone has made a ":GENIE" one but im sure the others can work nicely.

It may not be a dock function. But showing a thumbnail between the trash and seperator *is*. Mobydock has it half right.. but I'd like to see an option to show only minimized tasks.

Ok, now this I agree with...

I would like to see only minimized apps showing in the dock (right side)

cause I still use ALT-TAB to switch to my other open apps that do not show in the dock... also, and this is something i find annoying in objectdock...

I don't want an apps dialog boxes (save file, preferences etc.) showing up in the dock also.

don't be a smart elic Mageguru and bolero, the authors of the 3 docks aren't exactly going by the books and ONLY adding features you see in the OS X dock and I have SEEN the GENIE EFFECT in action on my computer with the old beta of ObjectDock and it does better for me than what WindowFX2 did on my comp.(Large windows still laged it down badly but WFX 2 is way worse on my comp(must be nvidia driver))

Well im sorry deciever i am not trying to be "smart" i am simply stateing that the Genie effect is not part of the dock. Yz does not want to add this option in as he said in an earlier thing.. and neither does moby. Object dock had it in an early beta yes. Butt Jeff took it out. I dont feel it should be in but thast my opinion, i respect everyones opinion.

Edit: also i got an idea for you Genie lovers .. Yz is adding plugin features for his dock. it will be pludinable so why dont someone write or maybe even Yz a Plugin spicificly for Genie.. so somepeople can have the plugin of genie.. some people who dont want it dont have to download the plugin.. its a good idea in my opinion

If Yz wants the genie effect, he will do it, but so far, its not going to be there according to the up coming releases and the future releases..unfortunalty its a great effect.

I want that too, but yz is doing the basic stuff first (and he decideds those things, we can just list him the stuff we want).

anyway, OD did have a genie effect, but was taken out for certain reasons, and i think it will not be implemented again, hopefully im wrong. regarding Yz dock, i heard he is making plugins for the dock, so it will be a great chance for us to work on a so wanted genie effect.

deciever-> get the 41.03 drivers for nVIDIA (which i have) and you'll see wfx2 isnt that bad, infact its freaking awesome with the way the transitions work now.

I've tried a 40.xx driver but I 'm not sure what the .xx were but it didn't help nor hurt but I still uninstalled it.......I uninstalled the SP1 and that screwed my driver settings and it took me about 2 days to figure out why I was getting a page fault error preventing me from booting up. I booted up in Safe Mode and VGA mode and eventually figured out it was my driver(it got corrupted or somethin) so I reinstalled the 30.xx driver from my disc. Also I always wanted the Genie Effect to be optional never to be forced because I know that it will obviously slow down the computer and may cause certain incompatibility problems.

Y'z Dock is doing to have plugins? Cool.. I'll take a minimize to dock plugin. It doesn't have to have a genie effect. A genie effect would just be icing on the cake if it had it. It could just show a minimized window thumbnail in there and remove it when you restore the window. That would make me happy.

I agree with Bolero on this one, the genie wasnt part of the dock, and it would be cool if a plugin could be made to have effects such as the genie effect. He still needs to work on the more important things, such as speed and accuracy.

All this talk about plug ins is making me hungry....

since when did someone complain about the dock speed since the 0.3.1 release? and what are you comparing the accuracy too? cuz I don' think you can get much closer to the real thing than what it's doing now

I don't think anyone can complain about the accuracy of the Y'z Dock....coz the magnification effect of the dock is dead on!!! (Don't know about the seperator though...is it accurate??)....as far as the speed of the dock is concerned I don't think it can get much faster than 0.31
