[help] Sp2 New .cpl Icons...location Of Two ?

Hi,

I've started to 'lightly mod' some files on my WinXP SP2 Home English Version laptop...

I have only (thus far) edited/modded my shell32.dll so that I have StefanKa's excellent Explorer & IE6 Toolbar .bmps, and modded the shell32 system folders (Icon Group #4 & #5) with SnowE-Aqua Folders...lol

SP2 has added the following .cpl icons:

1. Automatic Updates--->wuaucpl.cpl in\sys32

2. Security Center--->??

3. Windows Firewall--->??

4. Wireless Network Setup Wizard--->??

Numbers 1 & 2--->the quality of the icons are ok, but Numbers 3 & 4, they are of poor quality...pixalated, in fact there was even a thread @another forum discussing this...lol

SP2 New Control Panel Icons-Annoyance

Right now, I'm running my Control Panel in the Category Mode/View, as it is more bearable for me to view limited Luna type icons....lol

Thanks...

P.S.

Automatic Updates is in sys32, the Security Center icon is fine...lol, but where are:

Windows Firewall & Wireless Network Setup Wizard located ? I could not find any reference to them in \Windows or \sys32 ?

There are two new .cpl's in \sys32-firewall.cpl & netsetup.cpl, however opening them both up in ResHacker, there are not icon resources at all...

I'm pretty sure that they must be in some new, obscure .dll, but I have thoroughly search most every .dll in \sys32 (thinking it must be one of the 'net.dll's'...but no success.

The reason for me not being so aggressive on modding for SP2, is that after reviewing about the various 'SP2 issues' on the MS NewsGroups, their MVP's are hinting that many more 'Priority patches' are going to be coming out from WUv5 in the next 1-2 months...This will definately effect all present modding...

acedriver & SpaceKiD,

Hey....great and thanks so much! Man I been exploring \Windows\sys32 like a mad man...lol

I have used Restorator 2004, to exchange resources between his SP1 .cpl icons, and my new SP2 .cpl icons, then used Replacer to work its magic on these 16 .cpl icons.

I then went into my semi-modded shell32.dll, and replaced (what I thought) would be most of the remaining .cpl icons...

However to my utter disgust, I have 3 dam Windows default .cpl icons after carefully completing my work:

1. Network Connections

2. Network Setup Wizard

3. Scanners & Cameras

If memory serves correctly, these are standard SP1 .cpl icons...Where in the heck would I find these '3' to replace?? It must be again in a .dll that I have not looked at, for I thought that I would have all these icons covered after using StefanKa's 16 .cpl's & then the remaining I thought were in the shell32.dll ie: folders options, font, taskbar & start menu...printer & faxes...

Ok, thanks, as I was able to xpsp2res.dll--->located in:

1) c:\windows\sys32

2) c:\windows\Service Pack Files

3) c:\windows\Software Distribution\Downloads\6a................

Network Conections...no issues...same with Scanners & Cameras...

However, the darn 'hnetwiz.dll' is proving to

be quite the royal pain...I have relpaced in the following directories:

1) c:\windows\sys32

2) c:\windows\sys32\dll cache

3) c:\windows\service pack files

4) c:\windows\Software Distribution\Downloads\6ca7b3a8ef........

5) c:\windows\$NtService PackUninstall$

And my Control icon is still the default! So I see now why not too many of our talent modders are not too excited with working with SP2...

These files are in places not known to SP1...lol

With the hnetwiz.dll #1000 in Icon Group in all the above directories being replaced, is still shows the WinXP Luna default!

I have TweakUI & Icon Workshop and have literally worn the click on them out...trying to get this last dam remaining .cpl to change!!! I have had Windows search literally every where...to try to find out where the other default icons are located...

Thanks for the help (again)...and hopefully you have been through this (torture) too, so I may receive a solution.

:)

for Network Setup Wizard, you might wanna try in xpsp2res.dll too, icon #4001, it has the same icon as hnetwiz.dll #10000.

I can't remember which one that actually replaced the icon. Like you, I also use Restorator and Replacer. From my backup, these two places have the same icon.

YES!!! lol the actual icon that dictates the change of the Network Setup Wizard in the Control Panel is #4001 in xpsp2res.dll...I will post a ss soon as I'm quite 'burnt out' from this adventure...

Wow, this file is a new major one is also is located in many directories throughout Windows, and quite frankly I was very surprised that Replacer just did the sys32 directory & Service Pack Files...

I was then going to replace it in its many other locations:

c:\windows\SoftwareDistribuiton\Download\6c................

ect., ect., this baby is all over, but I clicked on TweakUI, and was shocked when it was actually replaced...lol

I just took a chance to look at this file prior to coming to A-S (for the final time tonight)...and then saw your post...

This has a little bit of all elements...and I might tweak it some more....later...Longhorn icons, TheLastOrder...lol

From what i've seen,

for SP2 it's better if you first look in the xpsp2res.dll and xpsp1res.dll files for any icon, dialog or other resource.

I've had a similar problem with a few dialogs that i've changed in different DLL and CPL files and didn't show the modification, but later i've seen that the same dialog was defined again in xpsp2res.dll.

There's only one icon i didn't manage to change, the "My Documents" icon.

I've change it in SHELL32.DLL, but still it shows the old one on my desktop. I've also changed the MyComputer and Network neighbourhood icons and those show up correctly.

Does anybody know what else should i change ? (i've also rebuild my iconcache as i tought that was the problem)

EDIT

Found it, silly me, how could i forget the MYDOCS.DLL file ?
