I just wanted to know what features are being added in the dx9 release of mobydock that weren't in .67. All the posts i'm seeing are "Wow! dx9 dock, that's great!"
, but I can't find any new features mentioned besides a new magnification effect.
What Will Be New In Mobydock Besides Dx9?
- many bugs from the old versions are fixed (dock not responding to mouse-clicks, cut off icons, control panel-size on none-standard dpi-settings etc. etc. )
- the functionality of the old mobydock 0.67 is completely finished, except the icon-bouncing.
the new features:
- vastly improved speed (only confirmed on Nvidia-cards so far)
- more accurate magnification-effect (looks perfect to me)
- smooth transitions for item-movement inside mobydock
- better outlined text for the items
- text fades out and moves with the items when mobydock goes into idle state
- new popup-menu items: close app/folder, lock item
- separate thread for the trash-State-checking (should stop possible freezes in the older versions of mobydock)
- Open- / Show- / minimize-functionality when items are clicked
- more "readable" ini-files (with sections and keywords)
- taskbar-functionality:
- all running apps and folder are shown in mobydock (right side of the dock)
- snapshots when taskbar-items get minimized via the dock
- ignore-list for taskbar-items for apps/folders you don't want to see in the mobydock-taskbar
- set your custom image for EVERY APP, FOLDER or DRIVE (subfolders of customized folders inherit the custom image)
to come before the release:
- snapshots also taken when minmize button on window is clicked
- "Stay in dock" for taskbar-items via popup-menu
- drag & drop functionality for copying/moving files to a folder inside mobydock
PS. Do a little searching before you post. ![]()
Drool....I'll be switching to MobyDock even if my 9700pro only does 30 something frames
My Geforce4MX does 115 frames, wanna trade cards? ![]()
wow, this may be what i have been waiting for.
i have gone on numerous rants about the fact that the biggest hole in aqua emulation is the dock. none of the three have yet combined looks, accuraccy, functionality, stability, and !!!!taskbar!!!! all in one, maybe this will. all we need now is for it not to show ALL open apps, and a genie effect ![]()
The Genie effects never gonna happen. It was in the origional objectdock, but for legal reasons, jeff took it out. So unless Apple gets bent and stops bothering us, we wont see it.
Any chance the new version will be dockable to the top of the screen?
I hardly see how Apple can copyright a minimize effect.
WindowFX 2 includes the old Mac minimize effect (shrink to center), which is still an option in the OS today. Can you remember what exactly went down?
I figured dock maker's wanted to get functionality into their dock before adding neat state transitions, but I always assumed it would be put in later (one of the last things). Some argue the Genie effect is a part of the OS (how it handles state transitions) and other argue it's a feature of the dock. I don't take either side but still hoped I'd get a chance to use it later on.
Maybe Moby could reply when he has some spare time and let us know if it is a planned feature for any release, or if it won't ever be included for some reason?
This has been discused a thousand times before (mostly because of me bringing it up) and it WAS IN THE ORIGIONAL OBJECT DOCK. But Apple got really pissed, and these guys dont want any trouble, and you cant blame them. They are able to do it, but this might drive apple over the edge. Apple does have a point, i know 2 people who got macs just for the genie effect. Wierd.
Smart way to do genie effect is to finish the dock...getting it perfect. Then beta the dock and genie effect with some trustworthy beta testers for a good 3 months. Then release. Then stop the project. Or even better...build in plug-in support and let things happen by the hands of others.
Well, I for one am glad you told Apple that, so that they can stop the docks before they go final. woo, thats a weight off my back.
I'm just wondering why if Apple is so concerned with it's OS effects they haven't said anything about WindowFX or any of it's features. It just sounds silly to me that Apple would allow docks, but disallow docks that include a minor effect that really doesn't do anything other then be visually pleasing.
LOL! That's what some people say about Macs... they really don't do anything other than be visually pleasing.

The reason people use macs is because they want to feel origional and different. Deep down, this is why all mac users buy them.
Apple has the Genie effect copyrighted. I'm sure they could care less about the crappy transitions in windowfx.
Moby, build that plug-in support. I'll make that effect. BITE ME APPLE!
