[help] Winxp Sp2 Will Not Install...?

Hi,

I have a fully patched, legal WinXP SP1 Home system (WinXP Home CD purchased in the U.S.A), and have set my new Automatic Update Options to both:

1. Automatic (Recommended) & then set it to:

2. Download Updates, and notify me when I can choose to install them

Being on 56k (lol-yes indeed), I have left my system be connected online for the last 48 hrs...Accordinging to MS, with either Automatic Options checked, it will notify me when the Express Version of WinXP SP2 (75 MB), will be ready for me to install via a Windows Update icon in the notification area...

I didn't receive this yet, so I decided to go to Windows Update v5 site and after electing the Express Mode, for critical updates:

WindowsXP SP2 Express Version 75 MB 4 hrs came up.....to Install...

I have tried to install it some 9-10 times and each time I receive an:

Installation: Download Failure Error Code: 8007f0cc---->which in Installation History to try it again.....

I have gone to every f--------king resource on the Window Arenas......and can not get any f--------king details on this error...

Even going to Windows Update Trouble Shooting Page...bla, bla, bla...lol, nothing exactly related to this error code: 8007f0cc

So I have now resorted to submitting a Microsoft Online Incident Report (because it is a Window Update issue)...it is Free of Charge....Man I thoroughly review all Tech Forums, and am hoping that the always well informed members @Aqua-soft Forums could possibly assist me in this very frustrating experience!!!

You can change login screen with StyleXP and some other software but it is advisewd not to do so since it changes some vital systemfiles in Windows XP. If you want to change login-screen - use the softare provided by starDock (Windows Blinds) instead. That software does not change any of the files in Windows XP.

Yes, I have modded sysfiles (which I have always run with successfully-ported from OSX -SnowE2 resources for SP1)...

Also, a modded LogonUi.exe, and ntsoskrnl.exe (however this Boot screen is used with BootXP app)...

Darn it, I was thinking that this might be the cause, so I will have to check with my other colleagues who also use modded SP1 sysfiles, and see if they are experiencing this issue too @Aqua Forums...

Thanks so much for your informative possible solution, as I might have to reformat now, but at least the frustration level is starting to lower!

I really though that SP2 sysfiles would override my modded (stefanka SP1 sysfiles) without any issues...

Before I have to do a complete reformat, has any other member had this experience with trying to install WinXP SP2 (while still having modded SP1 sysfiles)??

Yes indeed skinneylegs looks like my beloved SP1 stefanKa (fully updated for SP1) sysfiles are the problem...

Dam it...or I'm going to try the 'command prompt':

sfc/scannow and see what happens...but I'm not holding hope on this...

I swear though I read where Lynch reported @aquaxp, where you used Restorator 2004 to mod his SP2 shell32.dll, however a lot of the AVI's & bitmaps didn't work properly...

I thought that he installed XP SP2 over his present flyakite v5.1 sysfiles...Hmmm

Just a follow-up update, for those who have modded sysfiles like those from our talented modders @Aqua Communities...stefanka & Flyakite...

I love their files and they worked fine with my fully patched WinXP Home SP1 system, however when I tried to install SP2 with (one of these packages of modded sysfiles) SP2 'would not' install...

So in my case, I had to do a complete reformat, (no biggie, as I use this laptop for fun matters), and now have SP2 running on my system and all is running very smooth!

I do miss my beloved StefanKa sysfiles, but my system is running is faster all-the-way-around with SP2...and although Firefox is my personal preference, the new improvements to IE 6 SP2 are quite nice and it is fast...lol

I avoid sysfile changes for this kind of reason..while a powerful way to change the look of windows, it can also be deadly when update time comes... ^^
