Technically it is a wireless access point. It also servse as a broadband connection point (maybe also wired LAN), I think it has a telephone socket (too lazy to refresh my memory) and it also sends music to a stereo system (via an analogue or digital connection)

If your main purpose of buying wireless acess point is to suft the internet, product of Linksys might be better than Airport Express because Linksys is proven to have strong signal and its stability.

And Linksys also has its own wireless music system.

From experiences of a few colleagues and friends, Airport (Extreme or Express) is the way to go for wireless networking, whether you're on Mac or Windows (dunno about *nix, though) - by far the best signal strengths and reliabilities, not to mention speeds...
