Avedesk Vs. Samurize Vs. Kapsules Vs...

Im personally not incredibly worried. Kapsules supports .NET widgets at the moment anyhow. Any additional .NET scripting languages will just be seamlessly integrated ;)

The only drawback is for me really, because I'll have to include more language samples in my developer docs ;)

I'd always put widgets to be 'the UI-thing that came after desktop icons'.

Widgets, that was the graphical UI stuff the *nix geeks was fiddling with (Motif Widgets etc. using high tech development tools like TeleUSE) back in the days when the standards UI was called “the prompt”!

Remeber Windows 3.x, anyone?

How could we forget? The DOS prompt hidden by the Motif inspired graphical shell called Microsoft Windows. A toy not worthy calling an OS (like other simple but graphic oriented OS at that time, OS/2, Amiga OS, TOS, GEM, Macintosh etc.).

I believe that we'll have to wait until the entire desktop becomes an OpenGL or DirectX scene and the bread and butter frame windows degress to real time texture providers before we can really get widgets flying and not only floating;

The future is already here, old news but still worth mentioning. Take a look at Luminocity, the next generation GNOME WM. The wobbly window effect is really addictive!

This can only come from MS, since other's extensions won't coin a standard.

Don't be too sure... ;)
