Desktopx - Animated Icons

DesktopX is mainly used for 3 things:

1) Building custom desktop designs

2) Widgets

3) Animated icons

A DesktopX object can simply be a PNG (or BMP) with multiple frames of animation.

Essentially what you do is take a PNG file with X frames of animation and set that as the default object image state. In the animation tab, you tell it how many frames there are and how fast it should play each frame (in ms.).

Then export as a .dxpack and voila, an animated icon.

You can get fancier once you know what you're doing. For instance, create other states such as mouse over or create custom states that are activated by external events (time of day, weather, system status, etc.).

These animated icons can be set to point to programs or data or just be eye candy.

Here's a link to a quickie video that shows it off: Animated icon example
