I managed to delete an entry by deleting a line in itemlist.ini ... though is this the only way to delete dock entries?

Ah thanks it was easier than I thought heh..
While I'm at it... do you know how to get rid of that little separator that is there by default? It seems to be reserving space if you wan't to add another docklet....
Hold down Ctrl and drag it off the dock.

It worked with just dragging it off the screen... what does ctrl do while dragging it off the screen?

You can use Ctrl+drag to remove seperators - as dragging alone will not remove them.

Well it doesn't work... I'll get the separator off the screen.. and then I let go off the mouse button it just goes straigt back to the dock...
