Aqua-Soft ForumsI just recently downloaded the new Beta Version of Windows Media Player 10. I read a few reviews on it before I decided to try it out myself. I must say that, in my own opinion, microsoft is trying too hard to make their media player a lot like iTunes. With a search button added to it and various music stores available, it does remind me of it. But the horrible 3-panel view window for "quick" searching, certainly doesn't feel like iTunes, especially if you have a huge amount of songs. I thought it would've been easy and fun kinda like Finder, but it just didn't work for me. Even though WMP10 is sill in beta, I think iTunes already won my heart. What do you think about it?
Wmp 10 Vs. Itunes
I think it works very well for organising, and playing my movie collection. I woulnt give up iTunes for a music player, for well, allot.

Exactly. If you ask me, without trying I can tell you that I love iTunes more than WMP. I'm crazy about this spinning 'burn' icon :woot:

i love that icon as well. but i would go with itunes, very easy to organize you collection.

Id take iTunes over WMP anytime. Its simply better. Plus it has radio.
Saw my brother-in-law using WMP10..
Amazing how it went from the matte-metal-like default look to the glossy Aqua-like one. Seriously MS, employ some designers that don't have to rob ideas from everyone else..
I actually hate iTunes. I use Foobar and WMP primarily.
I used WMP10 when the Betas first came out and wasnt too impressed. I experienced a few "bugs" and I really didn't like the "glossy Aqua-like" look.
What you think maybe better others may deem junk.

Windows Media Player is the iTunes for Windows except it plays movies.
iTunes is horrible in windows, and wmp is horrible in osx.
So both are good for which their company's os is.
with QCD as my default player, i used to run iTunes on XP for listening to albums and playlists and i gotta say it was the greatest. plus sharing songs over a lan and copying via MyTunes was a great plus. WMP was just for vid on my machine

it's funny they put this warning there:

i didn't know that their final, released software met any standards... i mean, haven't we all at some point encountered problems with the release of a software that eventually resulted in the loss and destruction of data?
I don't like iTunes for Windows, like it on the Mac. For Win I stick with WinAmp or Foobar for music and WMP/VLC for video.
Why Apple can't program a decent overlay interface for Windows is beyond me.
-Edit, likewise for WMP Mac... why on Earth can't it have codec's loaded into it easily!

i prefer iTunes bcuz it looks nicer and matches my desktop...but the new WMP 10 is ugly.
i noticed on some systems when listening to fox 100 with iTunes ( the 64k Stream) it would cut out once in a while, while WMP 10 on the same system it plays just fine, yet iTunes will show the surrent song info, WMP won't, i sortof have mixed feelings ( in the middle between the two) for streaming, but when it comes to music store / local files / CDs its always iTunes for me
I do like the new improvements in Windows Media Player 10, like the ability to finally rip music files as MP3's with out the addition of an plugin.
The design is an improvement, but there are some things about it I still don't like. Such as the playlist creation.
I tunes has won my heart as far as interface and ease of use in creating playlists and etc, also, listen to music in the two programs, I notice a difference in the sound. Perhapps the difference in the EQ between the two programs?
The one thing I don't like about itunes is how it organizes music on your hard drive. I'd much rather keep my music in "MY MUSIC" folder in my documents, and secondly I don't like to organize my music on my hard drive by album then artist. Or artist then album.
I really like having my music ordered by Genre then by Artist and Album, and I haven't found a program that does that yet.
So I spend alot of time manually moving my files on my hard drive.
But I like to keep it simple, I have simple Genre cats too, Books & Spoken, Christian, Classic Rock 60s, 70s, 80s, Classical, Country, Easy Listening, Rap & Hip Hop, Rock, Oldies, Soundtracks, Misc.
I change the Genre on all my ID3 tags to match these usually, its just the way I've always liked it.
And I wish a player that can organize would do this for you. It would make life much easier when ripping CD's.
Other than that, I do like using WMP for my videos and DVD's but for the most part, I'm still stuck on Itunes.
Also I think itunes burns CD's faster and imports faster than WMP.
Just my .02 cents on the subject.
