[release] Lutetium Walls

About Magnetized Mind

Originally made because Mubach asked for a higher contrast version of Fossilized Mind, these are the Regular/Siro Lutetium wallpapers. After a few attempts I redid a lot of it from scratch and aimed for a glowy-pixel-y wallpaper. I think I hit the spot, and getting the pixel-look to seem right took quite some time. I like the end effect.. The regular zip-file is quite a huge 10.17MB, so 56k buckle your seat-beats, and comes in 5 different versions (Original, Blue, Purple, Siro and Red). ;)

About Silent

Obviously a completely different style; in fact my very first grunge/morbid wallpaper. I didn't want to do a simple "Here's blood smears, the end" wallpaper, I wanted something with depth and a more eerie feel. I used quite a few (stock, obviously) textures and some general magic-ing in FireWorks before thinking it was done.. I feel it'll good enough to pack together with the Silent Lutetium variant once that's complete. :) The poem used is my own from a few years back, the font used is actually my own hand-writing in font-format. ;) And just a note - the zip comes with text and non-text versions.

Download Magnetized Mind, 10.17MB.

Download Silent, 2.71MB.

Its prolly cause you are using an LCD... the refresh rate and the pixel separation causes this effect sometimes in some walls. Its one of those things i hate about LCD's...

In liquid crystal pixel cells, it is only the magnitude of the applied voltage which determines the light transmission (the transmission vs. voltage function is symmetrical about 0V). To prevent polarisation (and rapid permanent damage) of the liquid crystal material, the polarity of the cell voltage is reversed on alternate video frames. Unfortunately it is very difficult to get exactly the same voltage on the cell in both polarities, so the cell brightness will tend to flicker to some extent. If the polarity of the whole screen were inverted at once then the flicker would be unbearable. Instead, it is usual to have the polarity of nearby pixels in anti-phase, thus cancelling out the flicker over areas of any significant size. In this way the flicker can be made imperceptible for most "natural" images.

Great work exXXI!!!!!!! For a first time grunge wall that is amazing :D:o

Hehe thanks a lot for the nice comments! I did actually finish a second Magnetized wallpaper a few days ago, but I don't think it's good enough to release.. I'll send it Mubach and see how he rates it.

I'll see about releasing another grunge-y wallpaper when I get time.. Thanks again! :D
