[help] Topic Logging By Cookies

Hello,

last time I looked at blocked cookies in my browser, I noticed the following:

Some users, I don't name them, place their avatar pictures on a server that,

when the image is loaded, will copy or query a cookie on your HD as soon

as you read any topic where they have been posting in.

Is this a kind of data mining? Which sick mind needs to know this kind of info?

Or is this just the typical behavior of the free host servers they put their

avatars upon?

I would like to know.

Perhaps the board can cache these images and thus protect the reader from such

an insult.

Well if you can do me a favor and find out these users I'll be sure to smack em. :)

Tim,

I found one, but I doubt Tadis does this intentionally. While retrieving

http://home.btconnect.com/AMS/Tadis/Images/sig.png and

http://home.btconnect.com/AMS/Tadis/Images/avatar.png,

I get a blocked cookie.

False alarm.

I'm not sure exactly what this means, but whatever it is I assure you it's not done intentionally, if my avatar or sig is causing problems, I'll happily remove it.

Funny that, considering the images are hosted on paid for British Telecom (BT) webspace?

Should I remove?

No, really. BT seems to place a cookie and so do a few other ISPs.

Pointless (since blocked automatically) sniffing at users is bound to

be done by ex-monopolists like BT...
