[help] Modem Isnt Going Anywhere Fast

hey,

my modem is a US robotics 56k v.92 win fax modem. My freind has the same modem and he gets speeds of up to 52 kbps with no modem accelerator. How come my max speed can only go up to 45 kbps? Is there a way to boost my speed to at least 50 kbps?
