Why are you surprised a program named Savana cant read chinese?

The reason I dont like it is because its graphics arent great, a little pasted on, its based on IE, and NO FEATURES.

and its still better than IE

#17430

Hi all,

I tried Savanna for a bit, I did some beta testing and it was I that suggested the name change from Safari to Savanna. In all honesty though, I just don't like it much.

My reasons are as follows:

1. It's based on IE

2. Not enough features for my needs

3. It just looks odd on my desktop

4. I like Opera much more then *any* other browser I have tried and that includes Phoenix

5. Speedwise it's on par with IE

Mr Aqua, if you read this, I'm sorry.

By the way, there are some quite nice OS X related skins for Opera 7.0+:

Brushed Metal

Bugs V

Cocoa II - which is based on Chimera and is the one I use the most

ElzaVolter - which is based on Snow E2

Mac IE5

MacOSXVolter

O m n i

Sofa King - which based on Safari but not an *exact* clone

If it sounds like I'm a Opera Evangelist, it's because I am! I've been using Opera since it's 5.0 days and have not come across anything that beats it in terms of size, features, speed and resource usage. And before any screams that Opera is not free and runs in adware mode if one doesn't pay for it, yes this is true. So one either buys it or runs it in adware mode or being the resourceful individuals we all are...*ahem*...j00 know ;)

All the best for j00 cojones and j00 too,

Grusic

#17494

hey Grusic, thanks for caring about the cojones ;) (when will it end!)

I largely agree with you, but Savanna is actually really fast on my system, it depends on the setup I guess?

With me (Athlon XP 1700+, 768 MB DDR) It's the fastest browser I have. But at a price.

Features...yes, that's a big issue. But this thing is still in development, I guess/hope in time it'll be just like that thing on the mac...eh...what's it called... ( :) ) Tabbed browsing would be neat.

Also, I still get lots of errors loading some pages. Pop-up windows for some sites don't work, javascript execution gives lots of errors... the google search doesn't work (for me) . Does anyone else have that problem?

Apart from that, I like the look and functions it has so far. Let's hope MrAqua will continue to develop it, he's quite good at it I think. It could become a really great thing.

#17497

am I the only person who doesnt get the 'cojones' thing :(:)

#17499

having Cojones means having balls (guts, confidence). Grusic so kindly pointed this out to me.

#17503

I doent like the look!! It´s ugly!! hard to explain!! and I want to be able to skin all of it, not just part of it!!!

#17505

I'm using the savanna as the main browser now. No major problem with it. main reason I used it is because it is based on IE. Not the fastest engine, but who cares, my connection is fast enough, and with IE as the background I can browse almost all websites including my online banking and high security websites. It will have tabbed browsing for the next release, maybe today or tomorrow. and bugs will be fixed, it is still in development.so, no reason I would go back to IE. I love the way hadamek work, very fast coder and nice guy :P

alilm,

As contra so kindly pointed out, cojones refers to have balls, ie. guts, confidence etc.

But also it's a Spanish/Mexican receipe whose main ingredients are the testicles of a bull that has lost a fight in the arena.

I would assume from the little bit I know of Spanish and Latin American culture, that to eat the testicles of a bull is to symbolically eat the strength of the bull and receive its power.

Perhaps it would be synomous to eating the heart of ones enemy.

The Chinese have similiar beliefs surrounding the eating of various parts of various animals bodies, from what I am told.

The Hispanics and Latinos may be on to something though, as I would assume the testicles of such a large, powerful animal as a bull would be rich in testorone. So a man eating such a food would receive a testorone boost, if the ingested testorone survived stomach acids. Which would in turn make him more aggressive and powerful.

Americans have a similiar receipe called "Mountain Oysters" which is made from pigs testicles.

Anyway, enough of the cullinary anthropology lesson for now ;)

#17508

I won't use it until it has tabs...I am too used to Phoenix and it's tabs.

#17509

Mozilla based browsers have a lot more security than IE, so I hope thats not why your staying with IE.

I gave savanna a shot and so then I figured why not try making a skin for it. To be blunt, savanna's skinning system as it is now sucks.

It is hardcoded only to accept the 2 skins that came with it and the settings for those skins are also hardcoded into the app. Even some of the graphics. And if you edit one of those it still forces elements to be as it was before even if they are gone. Like, edit the brushed skin and it still shows the sunken aqua widgets and rouned edges even if the background you edit is squared.

The luna skin since it has the titlebar buttons loose in the folder you can edit the titlebar buttons from the files in the folder but the top edges still remain rounded when you replace the background with a squared one.

#17553

hehe stubborn piece of savanna :D

The skinning system was only implemented because we dudes @ AquaXP were thinkin' about a way to don't get a cease and desist letter from Apple.

The standard skin is XP Luna, so Apple can't say "You have stolen the look from Safari". It's just a skin and nothing more. Savanna was never supposed to enable skinning on it.

#17572

I'm afraid I have to say.. doesn't sound good to me then.

#17576

#17581

I have a Rhapsodized with round corners too but I didn't like it.

Anyway..... this one is taking a bit of time because it's a major update. It'll be worth the wait though I think.
