[info Request] Mailchecker Docklet

Probably this is a stupid question but my ideas are not clear.

In the mailchecker by Judge I've downloaded I think to understand

that Outlook Express (or other supported software) must be running.

Is it true?

If so, is there a way to know if there is new mail without having Outlook

running? I'd find it more useful.

I hope this has sense.
