Mockup Screenies

I though it would be fun if we could all get creative

and make mockup screenies of what we all thing

would be the perfect OS. :)

I think this is a great idea. Of course good UI design requires a lot of work, testing, and all that, but this can still be fun. Some of the best GUI ideas have come out of "what if...".

Be sure to explain your GUI, not just post the screenshot. Discuss anything new or better you want.

#201821

Thanks guys :) It would also be cool if you made logon screen

mockups. That way it would be complete :)

@ Seph : Whats wrong with two slashes ?

Good idea.

When I get my computer up and running again (sometime after Monday), I will try to do a mock-up or two.

Ok this is my mockup, BeckOS.

I've designed this with powerusers in mind, but I think is simple enough for anyone to use. Let me explain my thinking behind the style.

The GUI is dark and unintrusive, even to the point the menu bar is very small and at the top of screen, aka OSX. The icons show are running tasks, and underneath the load on the cpu (it makes sense to put it there right). The clock is a little too big, but it would obviously be able to be hidden. This system tray would dynamically resize in relation to how many tasks were running.

One idea I had that whenever a drive was mounted/cd inserted, the OS would tell you what it was and which drive it was in, I thought thats a cool idea.

I guess thats pretty much it, tell me what you think.

Looks great. Now get coding! :6

#202126

Yeah, nice job on that Alilm.. not sure I like the style of icons, waaay too toony for a dark, sleek interface.. but other than that it looks very good indeed. :)

#202202

Oh, here's a suggestion:

OS X!!! :P

(now I'm gonna get flamed)

I like the minimalist feel of Alilm's, though... The running tasks just need to be more integrated, like. I might do one later if I get bored enough.

Oh, wow, that's AWESOME!

I wrote a plug-in that was good enough to view the blasted demo and WOW!

Windows were sleek, and so awesome! There were effects flying everywhere and stuff! Oh man, you people have to see this demo, it's so kick-ass!

Just go write your own plug-in and WHAM! Prepare to be AMAZED! You could make MILLIONS off that OS, Wookie!

#202228

Ok, here is my vision, i had a lot of fun making it, its interactive. i made it in flash. all the info is in the swf file. anyways

See here

im still working on it, when i come up with more ideas i add them :)

#202229

Alright, so I came up with my own; however, soon after I made it I realized that it would work far better with a dual-deck menu bar on top... I'll do that tomorrow.

This one borrows inspiration from both OS X and Windows, as well as a few ideas of my own (like the application-specific global menu).

Here it is: 1280x1024

The name was something I just randomly typed... wouldn't be the real name at all.

Comments?

#202237

Heres what I think Longhorn should look like :)

I liked Build 4029 only it was still a bit premature and

it didnt have the modern explorer design or the special

effects that only came in in 4053 and 4074 :)

Screenie 1 - System properties and Sync

Screenie 2 - My computer and Awesome Special effects

Now this is my kind of thread. As some of you may have noticed I have been playing around with AveDesk already to create my own System bar/dock....

My machine is currently sitting in the bin due to a burn out, so as soon as my new bits arrive I'll get cracking on my concepts :)

#202257

Umm, isnt that just a sceenie you took of your desktop ?
