Ati Driver Support For Mobydock And Dx9

Hear YE Hear YE...

I was just informed about new Updates for Radeon 7000-9800, with CATALYST software.

"Framebuffer read-back performance has improved dramatically (500% or more) in CATALYST™3.2. This feature allows an application to retrieve a fully rendered frame from the graphics adapter and manipulate it or store it in the system RAM or on the hard disk."

With this kind of update, moby thinks that this will DEFINATELY improve his DX9 Dock speeds unmeasurably. (possibly kick nVidia's ass).

For More information (README):

For the DRIVER/SOFTWARE updates (Win2k/XP only):

And For the CATALYST Control Panel:

Check it out ATi Owners... And Moby asks if you can report any differences to him as it will help with Final Releases of MobyDock.

Thanks!

i just installed the drivers..

object dock .88 also has markedly better performance.

this is good enough reason to celebrate

#17321

hm...wait a sec. I have all the new drivers, and I have the 9500 pro...but the fps is still 29 ....what did I do wrong? hm...did you guys install directx 9 after installing the new drivers, cause I installed the dx9 before (a lot time ago) I got these new drivers....Can anyone help?

#17359

I'm really glad you guys got to have such results! THUMBS UP!!

I can tell you now that you will lose your minds when you see MobyDX9 working, and not just as a test, but as a dock.. (its better than the real thing.. like real quartz extreme ;) )

Its worth the wait (moby will update you of whats happening probably in the next few days).

Later.

i just ran the test,

i had dx9 installed BEFORE i installed the new ATI DRIVERS.

I think 2d performance on a whole has been better with this driverset

1152x824

48.~~~~~ fps

32 bit depth - with alot of other windows open.

but my rig is

celeron 950mhz and a radeon 7200 32mb ddr.

i think its acceptable? looks like liquid!

#17372

am i the only one running on a p2/p3 architecture?

anyways im using the older style memory DIMM.. nothing fancy.

pc133? hahhahah

#17373

What the frell!? :blink::angry:

stuck at 33 fps with 9700pro

For those that got the increased performance how did you install your drivers. i tried twice first time installed overtop my current drivers second time I deleted all ATI files and registry entries.

even at 33 fps it still looks great though

Uninstall old ATI drivers and ATI Control Panel from control panel/ Add remove programs. reboot. cancel when Xp says new hardware found. Close ALL running applications even those that are running in the background, anti virus etc.. Install new ATI driver., Reboot, install ATI control panel... reboot. Thats all

#17748

Also, you must delete the ATI drivers in the registry, You can search the registry for the ATI info or use "JV16 power tools" which makes your work easier.

#17812

Try and find a program called: Driver Cleaner 1.0

It can uninstall Radeon/ATI drivers and rid of all the ATI registry settings/keys.

Sorry I don't have a link to it :(

#17822

Nice and smooth @ 89FPS on work rig...

ATI Radeon 7000 (POS), AthlonXP 1700

Will definately switch from Y'Zs dock IF the next release can be positioned at the top of the screen (like Y'Zs).

#17835

I've tried everything shy of a reformat.

Uninstall old drivers/cp reboot install new drivers/cp.

Used driver cleaner

manually deleted ati files everywhere

nothing worked, still getting 33 fps.

I've rebooted more times in the last few days than I have in the last year (excluding the last few days of course :))

I know, it's so fast that it rolls over to 33 fps. :D

#17910

just tried the new drivers.

boy is it good...

before i was getting 14 fps, now i'm getting 110 fps out of my ATI mobility 7500.

great job, ATI.

#17912

I'm now formatting my computer, and then I will install the xp and see if it can help me with the problem of not getting any improvement out of the new 3.2 driver.

OK, I did the test....and it was......28fps out of my 9500pro..oh my god......what's wrong?I've nothing installed....just dx9 and the driver......my god....

#17922

Looks like it's something different in the architecture for the 9500 and 9700 pro.

#17925

That's what I think too, I think most people who got improvement out of this 3.2 driver are using cards other than 9500 and 9700..........I've read from somewhere in rage3d.com that the 9700 won't see much different in the 3.2 driver, but it will in the 3.3 .....hopefully I remember that correct and it includes my 9500 pro...

#17926

I even tried it in longhorn...30 fps.

This is what I was thinking when I was first reading this thread.

Hopefully cats 3.3 comes out before the new version of mobydock.

For anyone who has a laptop with the Mobility Series Radeons... there is a modded driver that can be found in this thread at DriverHeaven.net

You can download them directly from Patjes Website. I installed them and they work like MUHHHHNNNEEEEE.

I went from 14-18fps to 118fps. Also noticed some minor speedups in desktop accelleration.... although this just might be from excitement that the drivers worked and the blur from Moby's test :D

EDIT: I did have to install the driver twice right on top of my existing driver.... But it was worth it and seems to work reliably
