I need a light machine for work ( programming, database modeling ) and for a little gaming (Quake2, Unreal2, Lineage2 :smartass: ). I'm crazy about Z1VA but 16Mb graphics make me stun...
Ideas?
Between the two, I would choose the Vaio one without hesitations.
The proc and the weight are really better.
But it's true you will have perhaps some pb with Unreal2 or Lineage2...
My Laptop is an IBM T40p (1 year old). It's really great but it's not really the same price I guess.
hmm, centrino, and lighter. is there a similar laptop in the series, but a step up?

while the vaio might look classier compared to the Satelite in performance it falls over, dies, drowns, and should be thrown into the junkyard.
I have a satelite, they are the bulkiest things you've ever seen, but 
i could play doom3 straight out of the box without any upgrades at my normal resolution 1024x768. I use photoshop, im, etc. Its more of a desktop replacement then a laptop, since i don't take it anywhere.
Seems like a contradiction in terms.
Light machine for work? As mentioned above plus the Samsung X10 - X25 series,
about 1.8 kg with 2+4 hours on batteries.
Gaming rods need exhaustive GFX cards hence more cooling power, heavier
batteries, hence more bulk as mentioned: I carried a 4.3 (!) kg employer provided
Toshiba millstone around for four years and was really sick of it when I bought the
Samsung for its lightness.
Another really leightweight workhorse is the Panasonic with a 1.7 GHz Pentium M
Centrino setup. 1.3 kg with about 3 hours on battery. The clue with this thing
is that it has no ventilator at all. If it gets too hot, it'll throttle CPU speed, but at
work, you won't notice it.
Another drawback is: the lighter it gets, the more fragile it is.
I'd drop 3d shooters and go for a subnotebook, if AC power is in reach within 1.5
hours. Sadly, the best subnotebooks with 0.5 kg are available in Japan only.
