New field for me.

They will be targeted for graphic designs (photoshop...etc).

I know memory is the same (PC133) as pcs...So its ok if i get 2 sticks of 512 for the g4?...not sure.

Try installing a Luna interface then try a DOS emulator, you can't go wrong (so I'm told).

The G4 can use the latest NVidia or ATI cards. 40 gigs is small for graphics work. Get at least 120gig

The G3 can only be expanded by adding more memory. Max of 256 megs. OS 9 works faster then OSX for the G3 although OSX works fine with 128 megs memory (256 meg recommended). Drive space is needed too since it normally comes with 13 gigs.

you are lucky to have the G4 you've got. It turns out that, for some reason, the 867MHz was the best designed ever G4 made. Its the most efficient.

Anyway, load it up all the way. I think it can support upto 2GB of memory. Upgrade you videocard etc.. and you're good to go!

really? didnt know that, bah, too bad it aint for me! ahaha, im just fixing them to work at it best.

more questions will arrive when the 2 boxes arrive...

2GB huh? great. Tell me, how many slot (memory) i have? how many do u guess are being used? and...pc133 right ? (no ddr).

thanks again pals, thanks for your time.

ram is good. it has become apparent to me that the more stable an os is, the more mem it eats. osx is very stable and very memory hungry. (this is mainly why win9x were so unstable, they didn't give an app a certain amount of memory when it opened, but mac os, and win nt/2k/xp do it) so get as much ram as possible. also you don't need a special hdd. i was a little worried when i started digging in the g3 i got recently, cause the maxtor hdd inside had a little apple logo on it. but another drive had no problem in it. i myself am wondering if i can put my sblive! and pci geforce4 in the b&w g3, and if so, if osx has the drivers built in?

Actually I just picked up a biege G3 266 for $45...

and been looking into what can be upgraded...

well this is what I found...

A XLR8 400 MHz MACh Speed G4 Upgrade = $100 - $150

ProMAX TurboMax ATA 100/133 PCI IDE Card = $50

ATI Radeon 7000 PCI Mac Edition = $75 - $100

256MB low profile SDRAM = $30

for about $250 in upgrades, you have a pretty decent box for running OSX quite well.
