Aqua-Soft Forumsi was trying to set up itunes on my friend's computer, but was slightly dismayed in not finding a "monitor folder" option like in WMP. am i missing something.. ?

I don't think it does. You have to drop everything into iTunes.
It should be very simple. Just select the root folder and drag and drop it into iTunes.

It IS annoying ... especially when you want to move a bunch of albums you just ripped from one folder to another! iTunes has a 'problem' with that and you then have to 'find' the songs one after another manually when right clicking to get info on it. But hey, at least it has a funky icon to tell you it can't find it itself ;-)
That's one of the reasons I stoped using iTunes, because that got really annoying have to search through a billion files to find the new ones to add to have iTunes play.

Yes, and I did. But with iTunes you can only rip into one folder ... unless you change the preferences every time you rip.
Personally, I don't want all of my ripped cds going into the same folder with the same formatting options ... I like to punch them them out differently depending on who they're for [in the family] ... having 3 people using one PC here is a bit annoying for storing music files, as we all have different tastes ;-)
If you have the option check to let iTunes organise you library, it will put it into it's own folder (Artist -> Album -> ## Song).
At least it does for me.

too bad it doesnt monitor folders though.
i dont need it to...see the way i do it is this...
i either rip something from cd's and it auto puts it into the itunes directory
or
i download the music to my desktop and i have itunes copy it to the itunes folder, that way, i can get rid of the one on my desktop, knowing it is properly placed into my itunes folder

ok, but again, i want to eliminate that step of adding it to the library myself.. is further clarification needed? i thought the topic of this thread was pretty clear..
Just a tip: a really easy way of updating the iTunes database is to use the "File->Add Folder" button. That way it scans the folder for audio files and compares it with its own database. That way whatever is new/changed/altered get's updated. I keep all my audio files in one folder, and whenever I want to add music to iTunes, I just click "add folder" and select that one folder. Works like a charm every time. Just a thought.
right, im well aware of that feature.. but again, im looking for a feature that does what i was asking for; which is folder monitoring and auto-updating.
