I think I can add the following to the greater glory of AveDesk;

help me to get them in the right order since my time is limited.

Graphical widget designer for native Script widgets like in Dashboard / Konfabulator

I have been planning to do this for half a year. Time to get started.

Theme / Config manager with Pack'n Go

Reusing some Scriptable Multimeter code here.

Hosting of YZDock docklets

Actually finishing the thought that inspired Andreas to make AveDesk.

Even more scripting capabilities to the AveDesk object model

Concentrating on external features, automation controllers, modules and stuff.

Hosting of Desklets written in Visual Basic 6

One of my favourites - still not sure how to or if to open GDI+ to VB.

Replaceable resource management for easier translations

For the international user so that AveDesk can load different languages at run

time like YZDock does.

I think you misunderstood me.

I actually joined (teamed up with) Andreas in coding AveDesk 1.1 and asked

people what they think would be best for me to do for 1.2. I didn't ask anyone what they think Andreas should do.

Yes, I delayed my 'own crap' for the sake of improving AveDesk with scripting

support and I'm really proud of it.

Heh ... I think programmers can sometimes be like parent's duckie ... they can sometimes get 'selective hearing' when it comes to kids screaming all the time ;-)

And too, I also think programmers can be like the kiddies, wanting everything done now instead of waiting for it patiently.

@herd ... I uhm, don't understand half the stuff you listed up there, lol. Personally I'm having a blast as it is with what everyone has been doing and requesting and such. I've read more about scripting than I could ever have dreamed, and yet a lot of it slipped away already ... so for me, I'm just skinning and farting around with scripts that I 'think' I can make behave.

Sorry I couldn't help with the poll ... perhaps if you put it in 'kiddie terms' I might be able to vote?

--the first one i gather to be something like the samurize config editor/maker...

--the second one seems to be to make a theme to use on any docklet

--third is to be compatible with y'z docklets?

--not sure of the 4th...

--the 5th is to be able to use vb6 instead of delphi (which i think they're currently using for all of these? not sure of that particulars)

I don't know much about programming, but i think that one might be the easiest for you (am i wrong?) and would make alot of people happy. Best 'cost-benefit' ratio.

Its good seeing everyone being able to use avedesk --- maybe you should implement wheelchair accessramps to avedesk?

You got it right, almost.

the fourth is just to add more scripting control to AveDesk.

e.g. you can't assign an effect / effectlet to a desklet by script, can't change

the label type, can't find a desklet by its label and several other settings

that can be changed only by clicking in the config dialogs and not by an external

script or a desklet, effect or module. Implementing this would open a wide range

of possibilities like a desklet that controls other desklets, groups and tags them

etc. Finally, someone asked if it is possible to replace the config dialogs with

self written ones (VB6, Delphi, Webpages) and this would make it feasible.

As for the 5th one, well, most desklets are written in Visual C++, just like AveDesk itself.

Coders may find it easier to use the programming language they

are used to and C++ is admittedly hard stuff for the beginner, much harder than,

say Delphi or VB6 or scripting...

AveFocus was written in Delphi and uses the scripting capabilities. It would

need to be rewritten to C++ to become part of AveDesk, but as a module, it would

fit in perfectly.

I see I'm guilty of selective hearing. When duckie posted 7th & 8th choices,

I typically assumed that these were a direct answer to the question under the poll

'What should I do next'. I'm willing to learn to live with your nonlinear output,

Duckie, since the hatchlings depend on the hen to pamper them (hehe). As for

'kiddie terms', well WookieTV did a good job don't you think? Yes, I'm not a

native speaker, I mend my sentences from what I learned from english

programming books (you don't get decent translations) and I can't downgrade to

kidspeak for the reason of being a far too old fart already. I'm the kind of guy that

should never run a helpdesk because of nerdspeak being my only variant of

english at stock. Speaking sometimes like Yoda, I do.

Yes, they will all be implemented, but since the pace in nonprofessional

development is considerably slow (gotta leave home and earn a living

by coding comparatively boring stuff every now and then) I asked help for

getting these parts in the right order; now that the widget designer seems to be

most wanted and first implemented doesn't mean the remainder'll be dropped.

I agree that localization support is a must. Volunteers can't be forced to

reshack AveDesk each time a minor update hits the streets. I hope that

localizing it won't have it automatically distributed with PC-zines, download

areas because spreading it in the millions IMHO would impact support e-mail to

the thousands... Nevertheless I'll do it ASAP.

An option to 'hide all' or maybe selected widgets would be great...maybe right click the taskbar icon?...just thinking aloud.

As you can see in this post, binding external scripts into the menu of AveDesk is already in work. Those scripts would provide exactly that - however extending the taskbar icon menu with these is a good idea. A 'hide all' external script is already published somewhere on this board.

Since multiple selection can only be done by the config dialog at this time being, it makes sense to place that command somewhere near the list.

@grim53 - You seem to have missed the idea behind the first item altogether...

@all - Keep on voting - Ideas in the range of or extending the list items are welcome too.

The two features that I think would be cool are.....

-Ability to right click and chose Hide Selected Widget or Hide All Widgets

-Ability to export and import themes in the Control Panel

I doubt it. Really. The ActiveX / COM stuff is so tied into Windows so that at least

this part is a showstopper. Linux has (some find it a plus) no registry where the

scripting libraries are created from. There is a closed source implementation

named EntireX, but this is more for automation servers without user interface, for

cross platform integration of Microsoft Transaction Server Components. Maybe

when the Wine project goes 100% with Layered Windows and all; at this time

being I consider a backport of 1.0 possible if and only if Wine supports layered

windows.

Flarex, I recently got rid of my dual boot Linux, can you try running AveDesk 1.0

under Wine for us? Last time I checked was mid 2003 it didn't support the critical

UpdateLayeredWindow() Win32 API. (http://www.winehq.org)

However, there is a concurrent project that is based on .Net - it should do fine the

day Mono implements WindowForms and suchlike and be less hussle to port, even

if it employs managed DirectX, there should be the WineX libraries at hand.

These hide/unhide selected will be scripts inside the Extras menu. Just wait and

see.

The themes stuff still requires some brainstorming with Andreas; so far the next

minor release will have a SaveAs and a Load menu and possibly will parse its

commandline for Theme override.

As I said before somewhere else, the 'Pack'n Go' would be more than

saving a theme but packaging all running desklets and all their files into a single

binary file for easier, more consistent theme management.
