[help] Saving Configuration In Avedesk 1.1

Hey guys.......I am just wondering how often it is that you chose to save a particular configuration??? Or is that something that I should do on a regular basis..................I'm just not sure b/c I'm still figuring Avedesk out. But thanks to a number of helpful people I've got it working and really like it. Just wondering if I should be saving more configurations that I feel like I am........

Thanks,

Nate Dogg

This feature is not in Avedesk 1.1 yet, to my understanding. DZ already made a thread focusing on this. It's somewhere around here. I think to save the configuration as of now, is just backing up the configuration.ini. Hope this helps some.

LOL, sorry about that, maybe I should have read your post all the way throught...LOL. I don't save it very often at all. If there was a feature, I'm sure I'd use it. I know before Avedesk 1.1 came out I wanted that feature so badly, I think I changed my desklet icons everyday. Now though, I'm very content ;)

I save it whenever I can. After all it does run under Windows.

I especially save it when I hit a configuration that I like.

It's kinda like saving a Word document, have you changed it enough where you would kill someone if Windows where to crash?

i save very often, too. but my problem is my AV-Scanner (Gdata AVK), which "doesn't like" that. saving takes about 20 sec. now (2 Noted desklets, 3 drive desklets and judge's vertical calendar) and during the time, AVK is using about 90% CPU-ressources.

it's kinda annoying, since saving is needed (think of Notes) and does take that long.

AveDesks configuration is saved in Theme.ini.

For this time being, feel free to copy, backup and restore your Theme.ini

manually, once it has been saved to the state you want it to be.

1.0 automatically saved its configuration on close and end of your windows session

1.1 unfortunately fails to do so if you shut down your computer, so saving

a config, if altered, before shutting down windows makes sense.

1.2 will definitely have more support for this, but remember it is not done

only by saving a config; to make it usable for a seamless pack'n go, all

installed desklets / docklets need to be saved and restored as well, preferably

in a compressed binary file. Since some desklets / docklets need some special

treatment, e.g. installing or adding to the registry or even some fonts added,

it seems feasible to improve on ObjectDock's theme support and extend the

desklet API once again, so that truly Pack'n Go compliant desklets need to

be rebuilt, too. This really can take some time...

Yep, I've lost four good configurations to Windows. I save after I change anything.

what i really like, is Ave-herd-Desk's (;)) speed on start-up. So it may take some time to save a config or to close (close? why close? :P) as long as its behavior in daily use is that quick.

I'm sorry if this has been asked somewhere else or if I'm missing something, but this is what I would like to know: (I am quite new to AveDesk so hopefully I'm not sounding TOO ignorant when I ask this...)

I would like to have Avedesk start when windows starts and I would like to have my 3 favorite desklets start up with Avedesk at that time. Is there a way to make this happen?

Thank you

you have to save your avedesk config first, go to avedesk's control panel, click on application => save then put an avedesk shortcut into your startup folder that is located in c:documents and settingsuserstart menuprogramsstartup

reading a damn tutorial would help :/

duyvan82: Thanks for the info, I had tried to save my config before and then restart Ave later and it didn't work so I wasn't sure, but this worked fine. Thanks again ;)

Unbeliever: Something else that would help is if you wouldn't torture yourself all the time :P - everybody knows that you let every single tiny thing every forum user says drive you up a wall....you must enjoy your misery cuz you never cease to give it up =. I mean come on, you actually wait in anticipation for a moment to pounce on everything you can possibly find that bothers you.....the only problem is that 98% of everything bothers you =(

how come i`m not pissed off by your post?

look, dude, tutorail is there for a reason.

and if you "knew" me the way u say, u`d know that i just don`t give a f_uck about what pple think about me ;)

now i`ll shut up or Ave will slap me again >.<

#245314

Unbeliever: Your absolutely right about the tutorial...I have no idea why I didn't notice that while searching before =......considering the circumstances, I'd say Ave needs to slap me, not you :P

*takes a slap from Ave for being too stupid to see the tutorial plain as day*

BTW, thanks for taking the time to write up a tut for us ;)

#245321

it was a pleasure doing it (especially cause i was lagging behind Ave >.;)
