[request] Rss/xml Feed Reader

I've been looking around for a nice RSS-feed reader for PC but I haven't been able to find one wich I feel happy about.

There are several nice readers for OSX though like for example http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/ and http://freshlysqueezedsoftware.com/products/pulpfiction/

It would be really cool if someone would develop a nice rss reader for pc, inspired by the clean look of os x applications.

A feature I personaly would love to see is implementation of favicons for the different subscriptions, or a possibility to turn them on or off, because those make it alot easier to find the feed your looking for in my opinion.

Anyway, hope this is something for you developers to give some thought

Oh, and if there already is a simple, yet goodlooking rss reader for pc with support for favicons, someone please let me know.

I would code one myself if I had any experience of programming. I am a experienced designer though, and will offcourse help out in any way I can if someone should start this project and would want my help with graphics.

Edit: By the way, synchronising the feeds with your iPod would be damn cool!

I notice many guys here wish for too much. Someone is asking for a free VS Builder. Don't you think such an app does really cost 20$ if it works fine?

So what would you say if I offer you nice skinnable RSS reader with features of all those ones for Mac - and even with more features (I really have some in my head) - just for 19.99$? Huh?

Unfortunately, the software to download from here is bound to be free (heh, nice phrase <_< ). My hopes to earn some money are in vain again... :cry:

It's not like i'm forcing anyone to do it, maybe some developer would see the thread and think it would make a fun project for him/her.

Paying for a RSS Reader doesn't really interest me when there are already other applications that are both open source and freeware and have almost all the features you need. I simply proposed something wich maybe could be fun for someone to make.

And charging people money for software wich emulates other companies software (cause that's what this is all about right?) should really be a copyright infringement.. the reason I think it is ok to emulate os x on mac with free apps is that there is no possibility to run os x on a pc (alright, without emulation).

I do like your apps tho, but still dont think they do enough to be worth paying for.

Did you notice the almost in there? There are loads of applications for windows that do the same stuff that applications for OSX do, but we like os x because it looks way better and feels smoother and easier to use right? What I would have wanted to see if someone would ever have felt like coding it is simply somthing wich looks good and presents everything in a clean and easy to use interface, something wich regular software for PC appears to be unable of.

I don't mind that the devs maybe aren't interested, it's their absolute right not to be. If you're not interested, then don't care about the thread. Maybe someone is interested, maybe not, no need to get mad if you're not interested in it tho.

Is it only me that has noticed that most members here are way nicer to known people like for example Ave or Kol then the average new guy? Just give it a thought, if say, alilm made this thread (nothing personal alilm), would there not have been several replys the same day? Give it some thought...

When you're a senior member in the community who has contributed a ****load of work, then you get more respect. That's the way society works. Mmmm....elitism.

Anyway, I don't like any RSS apps (on any platform). I use Bloglines.com to manage my 75 feeds. Good stuff. No ads, easy to use, works anywhere, and has import/export.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. You asked for a reader that looks like OS X one. I thought you wish for skinnable app. Seems like you wish for a modded one.

And the synchronization to iPod is much fun for a dev. I should have at least an iPod for debugging.

I still really think that the reader you requested should be shareware. I don't know about other devs here or anywhere else, but I don't make a couple of web-clients just for a warm-up when I log in to Windows. XML parsing and validating is a serious project. Skinnable app is a serious project. Web-client is a serious project. RSS reader you asked for is a combination of thease three kinds of work at least. There also should be a database to store all the items you read before. There must be an agent app, command line interface or COM object - for you to have a sheduled update of feeds. You'd like to make exports in a dozen of formats. And of course, you'd like to have a powerful reader that fully integrates into system - just click a link in IE and it works. Am I right?

So why do you tell us about some fun? Fun projects are already there, look for them @ Sourceforge.

:staffs here: ANOTHER GOOD IDEA: communicate to some opensource project originators/devs and tell them about features you wish for. Help 'em with skins (better don't try to make OSX a default one - you've mentioned the copyright problems), then wait for a stable build. Voila - you can post [release] topic here.

And funny: in ONE post you say that a dev should not even touch a request topic he is not interested in and wonder why there's no replies to your request.

Rimmer, feel free to make a shareware reader, I won't stop you and so can noone else. Considering your remarks, people have different ideas of fun, just because you dont find it to be fun doesn't mean everyone else will.

Nice idea about colaborating with already excisting opensource projects, I might give that a go
