I was browsing AXP's desktop of the month thread, and it struck me: we at AS should have a competition of our own! It could be, say, "desktop of the week." Or maybe a "release of the week" with a few runner-ups. That way people can be somewhat rewarded for their hard work while also getting their work out there for people to hear about and download. I dunno, but I think it'd be a neat idea. Just something to get everyone's blood flowing. Just a thought.

Personally, I never really saw the point of "desktop of the month", because one's desktop is a very personal thing... By all means show it off, but one persons beauty is another's hideous...
Likewise applications - I didn't like AveDesk until about a week or two ago, when Ave forced me to use it, and I don't like alilm's apps (in fact, I just plain don't like alilm. He smells. Of kestrel.). This isn't to say they're bad, or anything like that, it's just that I personally have had no use for them, and so have not used (or enjoyed using) them. Yes, they may be "cool" for 5 minutes, but "cool" does not a usable desktop make, in my opinion.
Not only that, but applications are much more personal than one's desktop - an "application of the month/week/day" could offend some developers if an older app maintains the top-spot when their release that's taken 6 months of their life doesn't get the top spot...
When* we have a competition here its going to be much more than just the best desktop,

A compition of some kind would be good, it'll proberly help people with there skills and what not.
and hope fully encourage people to think in four dimentions and not 2.
at axp, a mod assembles the DOTM poll, providing links to all DOTM entrants' screenshots. usually there are around 20 entrants, and it takes like a half hour to assemble that poll.
at a-s, which has many times the active posters of axp and, especially, many many more people posting their desktops, managing a DOTM poll would be an enormous pain in the a55. you'd have like minimum 50 entrants. plus, who wants to open up 50 screenshots to vote?!? it would be quite insane i think.
