All Them Prity Sigs
For my avatar and signature, I used mostly gradients and layers with different overlay settings. I myself have been doing things like this for so long that I generally just play around with things until I get the desired effect but there are several online tutorials you can look at if you take the time to find them.
There are a few tutorials on making glassy effects using programs such as Photoshop. I myself use The GIMP.
The picture in the glassy icon in my avatar\signature is one of my original drawings that I have done.
mine is from Konfabulator, with some cut and past in photo shop by me

Thats a good drawing smoke. Mine (when its back up) was made in GIMP. Its just cutting and pasting things from Google Images. I love google.
I'll have to try that... but I wanted to know how thouse people with the appleish sigs got theirs/made theirs 
I made my avatar in photo shop and my sig in photo draw and paint!
I made mine with the help of a Bif Naked CD I bought a couple months ago.
I took mine from a Mac address book and then in photoshop changed some stuff around....Later

Well mine isn't all that great. I just used some shadow and text effects with PSP and added the quotes with MS Paint.

I decided to use myself as an avatar, I think it familiarizes me around here. Does it?
I made mine with Photoshop (of course).
The only thing I didn't do was draw the character, but everything else in the background I did.
Mage - The Hero Discovered, is a Comic written/drawn by Matt Wagner (Grendel fame, Batman).
Its about Kevin Matchstick (the person in the picture), who is the modern reincarnation of King Arthur... and his Glowing Bat is Excalibur. Its about him and others (who also happen to be modern reincarnations of other forklore heroes), and thier battles with demons, and other evils, while also of course dealing with personal issues. Original series came out back in '86 by Comico.
Last series 'The Hero Defined' came out in '87 by Image.
I made my avatar using Photoshop and some Aqua icons, such as "Network connections" and Apple logo. Place an "A" and a "S" after some effects and ready!
