hi!

yeah you can do something for this precise thing, in fact if you want the skinned task panel, but before you do that be sure the task panel is deactivated in the folder options dialog.

go into C:\WINDOWS\Ressources\Themes\{iceman's folder}\Aqua\Shell\Normal color.

copy the shellstyle.dll.

now go back to ...\Themes, and go into:

\Luna\Normal color\Shell\ & paste the previous shellstyle.dll.

if it works well, windows should ask you the original cd, otherwise, check into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Dllcache if there isn't a file named shellstyle.dll or ss_blue.dll and delete it if ever.

isn't this what you want? ;) :

and i forgot, of course reactivate the explorer tab in the folder options dialog & make sure next to check or uncheck (i can't remember) the option: "use WINXP style explorer bar" in the WB preferences, try both, one of them work

#17277

Yes, I want these .

Thank for the information and help me!! :)

#17296

#17406

I went though and used icemans visual style copied the shell style into /aqua/normal color then did that for all the backup folders like the service pack folder and dll cache and system 32 folder but as in the picture i couldnt get it to skin.

@n128CD : which version of WB are you using?

#17670

Version 3.4

#17741

have you tried to check and uncheck the option i told in the wb config dialog?

#17791

Another related task:

I would like to use msstyle (iceman's aqua) as a default and let windowblinds skin just a few apps (brushed: browser, messenger, etc). Can I do this?

Are there any brushed themes in windowblinds with max/min/close buttons on the right?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Ken

#17798

i konw of judge's brushed skin which has 4 different sub-skin with one of them with the buttons on the right :

http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?sear...nding&library=1

& maybe you can do what you want to do through the exclusion list of wb, if perhaps you exclude explorer.exe from being skined it'll works, but i'm not sure...mmmh and i remember there is an inclusion list in wb, maybe with this you can make it skin only what you tell him...

#17802

Wouldn't it be really slow to run them both at once?

#17865

Well, most msstyles use the same cpu and memory as Luna (well, depends on the bitmaps, color depth and complexity of the skin, but shouldn't vary that much).

I'm not sure if my system would be lighter if I used WindowBlinds on all windows. Or if it consumes resources and cpu power only when the skinned apps appear. It has to watch your desktop all the time in order to check for the sellected apps to skin.

The only other way to have dual skin (aqua & brushed) is having hard coded skin in apps, which I wouldn't like. Anyone knows of another way?

I'll let you know once I use the msstyles-wb combo.

I don't know why i can't make it work.... i replaced the dll.. and nothing happened... i'm using WB 3.98 and while i'm using it... it just shows the wb side panel... it doesn't matter whether i check or uncheck the "use WINXP style explorer bar " option.... i'd like to know why....

#17900

I've done tests with xp's skinning engine.

I disabled it and it and my puter had a significant speed increase... :)

(No themes at all, just pure 1337 greyness)... B)

Window blinds also slows down your puter aswell. :(

So in theory running both xp's theming engine and window blinds skinning engine would decrease puter speed...? Just a thought...

Let me know if you diagree or if I'm wrong.

Cheers

#17903

have you tried to check and uncheck the option i told in the wb config dialog?

I have unchecked it but i have not rechecked it but the whole panel is whit and not skinned.

#17911

Well i realized that when i changed de shellstyle.dll... windows replaced it again for a new one... so i looked for it in dllcache, i386 in servicepack1 folder and in system32... and i just found a shellstyle.dll i the system32 folder but when i try to erase it or replace it windows once again put a new one or replace it for the original... but as i said... i didn't find any ss_blue.dll or shellstyle.dll in dllcache nor in i386... so i have no idea where that shellstyle replacmen is coming from....

Any Help???

#17917

I had the same problem as above.. the solution:

1. Copy iceman's shellstyle.dll (aqua) directly in C:\ (or which drive u use, this is just to make it easier).

2. Restart your computer, press F8 before the Winxp loading bar shows up and select to start your computer in safe mode with the command prompt.

3. When in the command window, type:

cd\

rename c:\windows\resources\themes\luna\shell\normalcolor\shellstyle.dll shellstyle.bak

when that is done, type:

copy c:\shellstyle.dll c:\windows\resources\themes\luna\shell\normalcolor\shellstyle.dll (not sure if you must type the last shellstyle.dll part... )

This should solve your problem.

and i forgot to tell that if you're using XP home there is also a folder called something like "winxp support files" which act like dllcache, check in here too...

#17933

OK.. now it worked.... but i only can use OSXP-A... it doesn't seem to work with tha last release OSXP-NG.. at least for me... when i use the last one the side panel doesn't apear... and it doesn't matter whether i check or uncheck the "use WINXP style explorer bar " option....

Does OSXP-NG work for any of you... if so... what did you do to make it work?

#17946

nope, i'm using osxp-a to make it works, it can't work with wb skins that uses shellstyle support i assume...
