That review says the second one is a piece of crap.
It looks the part too!
The first one looks nice, though.
Next month, however, the iPod will face its most potent competitor.
Yes it will, And it will win once again ! ![]()
How many "iPod Killers" are there? Or that claimed that they are the "iPod Killer?" Like 7. But yet the iPod is still the most prestegious MP3 player that anybody can own.
In order to "kill" the iPod, you need to have a slick style. Both of those do not have it.

:secret: tell me, tell me, i want to know too :secret:
I must say the first one looks good but... soundstage software? are you kidding me?
On the other hand, the iPod looks far better to me ![]()
Neither of these will kill the iPod for one simple fact: Sony.
Their entertainment divisions (music and film) have essentially crippled their electronics division's innovation by insisting that anything that a user might ever want (mp3 player, DVD recorder, etc.) can only be made on condition that it uses some absolutely naff proprietary software and codecs that are about as useful as um... A not-very-useful-thing.
Really, Sony electronics these days are pants compared to the Sony of a few years back (before they knew their mp3 from their AAC and ATRAC). That, however, is not to say that a lot of their products aren't stellar, it's just that any forays they make into digital media will be severely hampered by their entertainment divisions saying "screw your consumers in the ass, or we'll sue you. Us. Them. Er. Just do it! But don't, because that's a Nike trademark, and we can't use that on our products. Oh dear, I just shat myself."
The iPod will never die. Simply becasue of this one fact: Girls think they're cute.
There's no need to get all technical. Truth be truth, the iPod is in what's called the "In" in the fashion world.

I must say he has a point in everything of the above said except his strange and twisted rambling at the end.
I own an NX70V sony clie PDA and i am pretty sick and tired of having to pay the extra bucks for a memory stick (it only accepts 128 as max) instead of being able to buy the larger and cheaper alternatives out there... ![]()
Im not doing it again...

The point to that rambling was to illustrate that Sony really don't have a clue what they're doing these days because they're being run by insane media-creation types...
That hurts my eyes, wookie. All scrolling items are inferior to the iPod's wheel bit. Thingy. item...uh
Anyway, rio blows
EDIT
Another thing: the software looks pathetic. iPods are going to be on top for a while because:
-They were 1st and biggest
-They look very cool
-They arent extremely expensive (who need 40 GB anyway?)
-The scrollwhell beats all competition as far as ease of use goes
-They look DAMN cool
The iPod has to be beat in the engineering department before anything will come close to killing it. iPods looks and UI are the main things that sell it. If people want more features they usually get a Zen (if they don't care about carrying a freaking shoebox around for music) or an iRiver (I still like the iPod better, but iRvers have some sweet features).
i think some of you guys just like something because it's apple... i think the rio looks decent... and that 2nd sony is ok too, what makes it not nice looking?
i've played with the ipods and to tell you truth, nothing about it knocked my socks off that i had to name it, kill someone for it, or sell my soul for it.
can you honestly name a product you didn't like from apple?
can you honestly name a product you didn't like from apple?
Ide like to know also. ![]()
The 1st Sony was nice. I also agree with StevieBM. Unless its the Playstation or their TVs, Sonys electronics have lacked over the last couple of years. I used to love their "ES" series of Hi-Fi equiptment. I went H.K. and Denon.
did someone say Biased? not me :|
I like simplicity. I actually like the 4G iPod better than the 2G iPod (which I think is superior to 3G). How can having more than 10 buttons be simplistic?
The first one has too much going on in the screen. Not to mention that I personally don't like to have album art displaying. So for me it would be a waste of space and battery life. Then you have the icons for the artst and album. Why could they just have the text? I am sure anybody can figure out with one is the artist and whidh one is the album. There are TWO different time displays. One next to the album art, and one with a bar near the bottom. And then you have a BIG "Song / Playlist" display. It just seems too cluttered and bulky for what it does.
The second seems alright, but there is a limit to how small things should get. I would feel like I would loose it in my butt crack.
The Rio actually looks really nice. But Rio sub-lets their support and has one of the worst reputations in customer service.
