I'm not totaly sure if this would be considered General Hardware, General Discussion, or Cross-Platform. Would it be possible to write a new firmware that enables a CD-ROM to read a GD-ROM (which is basically a Dreamcast Disk). If it would help any, the GD-ROM reader uses a normal CD-ROM laser and I've herd that "hypethetically" a DVD-ROM can read a GD-ROM. This in no way is related to game piracy. I would just like to know if it could be done.
Cd-rom Reading Gd-rom?
Actually, a GD-ROM is a CD-ROM that is burned from the outside of the disk (a cd is burn from the center of the disk).
So yeah, maybe it's possible ![]()

don't most newer CD Burners have the ability to burn outside in nowadays?
Yes, that's called OverBurn.
But I don't think I explained myself correctly.
CD-Rom are burned from the center to the outside. on the GD-ROM, it's the contrary ![]()

Perhaps some one could work on a firmware to give a CD-ROM read a GD-ROM? By the way, overburn is not how they make a GD-ROM, I think. It would be nice to be able to make GD-ROMs on the PC. By the way, if any one is up to it, I can post some links to a few sites that have some info on the GD-ROM if they would like to try to make a firmware.
EDIT: A GD-ROM has 1 gigabyte of High-Density Data is on the outside, which is why a normal CD-ROM can't read them.
