Apple Os On Intel

i have an old apple os that runs on intel hardware! its called....... Rhapsody and is the predecessor of Mac OS X 10.0 and runs on the MACH kernel. here's a screenie of it running in virtual pc 4.2 (the latest it supports): http://www.cybrian.com/images/rhapsody.png if anyone wants a copy bad enough to actually post in this forum for one (don't. its a warez copy that you'll get if you get one at all) im me at yahoo im (blryah) or aim (cybrian1) well tell me if you want to know how to get it working. it works fine for me.

actually i think the version i was using (dev release 2) came before even 9 (someone correct me if i'm wrong). but it was the first unix based mac os and runs hardly any programs. it runs some nextstep progs outofthebox though. it was based off the mach kernel as i said and doesn't even have aqua or the dock (but i like its platinum theme almost as much as aqua) and its based made from nextstep. i wanna try some nextstep/openstep progs and will tell you if it works.

Sorry but.. Rhapsody is well known by anybody that's so interested in the "OS X for x86" subject. If you want to see an on going project that looks promising check out The Rhapsody Project, which is working on bringing Rhapsody to life as a "modern" and functioning OS (or that's what I gather).

Edit: And you're thinking of the OS X Server Beta which looked like Rhapsody/OS 9.

Rhapsody isn't so *great*, it was never finished and doesn't even have ethernet support and it was terribly buggy and slow, and ugly, for that matter.

That Rhapsody project is also pointless, because its going to turn out like OS X, and someone with OS X can simply skin it to look like Rhapsody. OSX can also be run on intel systems through pearpc if you are desperate. So really, the entire project is pointless. But it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Amazingly; incomplete OSs usually are slow, buggy and ugly. Take a look at OS X 10.0 and the DPs.

There's huge number of reasons why it isn't pointless, but I'll be brief. Firstly you have little ground to stand on calling it 'pointless,' especially after the hardships the team have put up with if you read through just the News page. It would bring an Apple made OS to x86, natively. Yes you could use PearPC, but honestly, it won't reach 100% emulated speed, it is illegal (there was a lengthy discussion on this at the SpyMac IRC on the WWDC, it is illegal to run Mac OS X on any computer that isn't Apple's as stated in the Agreement when you installed the OS (as well as the licensing agreement I think)) and whilst it's gaining great ground, I doubt it could ever really compete with buying a Mac.

"It's going to turn out like OS X" - Perhaps, since OS X evolved from Rhapsody, which in turn evolved from OPENSTEP. But that's a different subject, you honestly believe Apple would watch someone take an older OS of theirs and update it to a degree which you could even compare it with OS X? Exactly.

As for using it instead of OS X (from your 'OS X people can just skin it like Rhapsody' comment), that, again, isn't the point. These people want Rhapsody for x86. We've got Mac OS X on the PowerPC platform, why should we truly need the OS that gave birth to it? Bar nostalgic values.
